What do you mean by undercook?
Starpro87:
You undercooked it, I guess.

To remedy this, buy another reasonable qty of banga and prepare another ofe akwu, then mix it together with the old one. That would salvage the situation. E'Pele

I thought there is this banga powder that is usually sold in the market. OP, why wasting strength and time pounding banga with pestle and mortar!

Just man up and throw the stuff away. No matter what you do, you can never get the exact taste back.

Pls don't pour it away.
It was probably not well cooked to get the expected oil floating on top .
The time you cooked it and the morning you saw it like that has not done any harm to it.
Just warm it very well.
Also leave it opened.

go get charcoal for a new meal
This is the real remedy
Re: Is There Any Remedy For My Ofe Akwu? [Photos] by twosquare(m):
A lot of food will go that way this Q1 if you don't put it in fridge or freezer. This is because of the heat season that is gradually coming in. Some food can't survive the weather we have now overnight. It will spoil. Bacteria will act on it faster. Know this and know peace.

CandyOps:
Yesterday I dey kitchen till almost 10.30pm
Cooked okro soup and Ofe Akwu for today's rice. With well seasoned beef

As I woke up happily to go an warm it and it was looking a bit swollen with tiny little bubbles popping up.

Etosha:
Irreversible damage by bacteria. Don't lick your spoon and deep it into a pot of soup after it has cooled to a certain level and also don't leave it totally opened as bacteria can contaminate the soup through these two ways.
Leaving it open is the best way for bacteria not to enter eat sef. Abi you think say bacteria na cockroach?

Allfavours:
This one has happened, next time if the weather is hot never 100% cover any thing you cook, but for this one follow the recommendations above, like onion, charcoal, etc
Re: Is There Any Remedy For My Ofe Akwu? [Photos] by MadamExcellency: 12:51pm On Jan 05, 2025
Buy 1 kg of charcoal and put it inside the soup to remove the sourness and use akanwụ to ease the bonds.

This is how it looks after warmin
This is the only reason I hate ife akwu, it can sour anytime

NEXT time complete the cooking and store them in freezer when it cools down
Re: Is There Any Remedy For My Ofe Akwu? [Photos] by jerryok(m): 12:53pm On Jan 05, 2025
Next time just make sure that the oil covers the entire surface. It preserves it longer.

To fix this, I always add more crayfish and ahighbe or ncho anwu leaves. It helps but the taste will never be the same.

Next time, do the following
1. Never close the pot completely after cooking. This will allow steam to escape and prevent condensation, which can create a damp environment that will cause the food to spoil faster.

2. Use a clean spoon each time you taste the soup, and avoid putting the same spoon back into the pot. Saliva on the spoon can introduce enzymes and bacteria that might speed up the process of spoilage.
Do people lick the spoon while cooking? That's gross. Once I lick the spoon for any reason, I wash the spoon before dipping it back into the soup.

Anyway, I'm seeing the oil is still floating. Oil on its own is a preservative so I'm surprised it is foaming. Op, add lots of ground crayfish and potash (ikewu). Warm very well and then leave the cover partially open till it cools, then cover it back. It will be almost as good as new

Hmmm maybe na prank
I turned around to check. But na my house so I no expect to see hidden camera.

Na so this banga take spoil.
The idea was to include some more veggies and stock fish to the stew this morning b4 dishing it into the storage containers for freezing.

Hmmm! *sighs deeply*

At that moment i wished I was a babe so I would have no excuses than to start crying like a child.

I legit felt like crying at that instant because WTF?! And fridge dey o

I had to go borrow a bigger pistle & mortar from a neighbour to get this stew done faster that yesterday and now it's spoilt?

This can't be true.
I just bent over the pot to perceive the aroma but... Nothing. No odd smells. But it's def going bad

Madd! 😠

Its over 3 hours now since I warmed it up again. I want to know if there's any solution to make it taste any better as it kinda slaps a bit and not so fresh any more

. I feel like calling my babe to ask for a solution but remember say I no get babe .. now I'm double mad! 😡 💢

Called mumsy and she advised to add some balls of charcoal to it.

I think I understand how women feel when they have drastic mood swings and go from happy to erratic in seconds. That's me rn.

I went from having the mental composure of Master Shifu (see Kungfu Panda) to that of a 3yo baby.

So now... Sunday lunch will be replanned.
Any remedy to the soup? Any hope huh

I'm omw to the market to get some charred coal. I'll check suggestions so I'll buy anything I need at once
You should have serve the foamy top off immediately before warming it. That is the trick I discovered long time ago.

Get a big piece of charcoal
Drop it inside the pot and warm it, don't cover it while warming.
Your stew will be revived again

Adsorbent: Charcoal can adsorb gases from the air, including poisonous gases, and coloring matter from solutions.

Yes people do taste with the spoon used for cooking which is not wrong as long as you rinse or change to a clean spoon
