They have forgotten when they were ripping Nigerians off. They never wasted time to increase prices even on their old stock, now prices are coming down excuses have started.
How soon do you think the price will go below what it was in January 2023, when T-Pain promised to crash the price of petrol huh

20 months after ebilokan hit the ground running, should the price not have crashed, if he is a man of his words?

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.

On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.

On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.

Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.

Ignorance breeds senseless comment. What Petroan is saying is that the cost of Running business is no longer affordable to most retailers. As at May 2023 a 50,000 litres truck of Petrol at 185 cost 9,250,000 but today a 50,000 litres truck of Petrol costs 49,500,000. Most marketers can no longer sponsor the business

AmazingGenius:
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has justified its earlier request that the Federal Government authorize a N100 billion intervention fund to help stabilize the petroleum products market and make them more accessible to Nigerians.

Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, President of the association, spoke on Arise TV’s This Morning Show on Monday about the urgent need for financial intervention to offset the high cost of business operations in the sector.

“The request for N100 billion intervention was requested because it is going to cushion the cost of money in our business. And that will make a long way to make petroleum products available and affordable to Nigerians.”

He further elaborated on the source of the proposed funds, emphasizing that the intervention could be integrated into the federal budget.

“Every year, there’s a budget, and this N100 billion is just a small fraction of it. It’s going to significantly ease our operations, especially considering that the current cost of money is between 36 and 40 percent,” he stated.

The PETROAN president stressed that the high cost of financing has placed immense pressure on petroleum product retailers, which directly impacts the prices that consumers face at the pump. The intervention fund, he argued, would provide the necessary financial relief to ensure a steady supply of petroleum products at reduced prices.

Dr. Gillis-Harry also appealed to the federal government to prioritize the request, emphasizing its potential benefits for the broader economy. “We hope the federal government will take this very seriously. It’s going to help ensure that Nigerians can access petroleum products at a much more affordable price,” he urged.

Back story

Over the weekend, the group, in a statement signed by its president urged President Bola Tinubu to approve N100 billion grant to marketers to help with job losses caused by the removal of petrol subsidy.

The statement read, in part, “PETROAN request for a grant of N100 billion from President Bola Tinubu to help prevent the closure of 10,000 marketers’ businesses.”

“The request is in response to the threat of job losses that would result from the removal of the fuel subsidy.”

• PETROAN said the recommendations will consolidate gains in the downstream sector.

• According to the association, despite the challenges experienced last year, the sector is poised for continued growth and development.

“2024 was a significant year for Nigeria’s oil and gas downstream sector, marked by deregulation, infrastructure investments, and growth in the LPG market,” PETROAN said.

N100bln for what exactly? How does it help you keep products flowing? Which job losses is he talking about? What issue is there with the market if Dangote is fully supplying the market? Who said the product is not available and affordable. They should change their business model to storing products for Dangote instead of storing imported products.

In Nigeria if you no get mind, useless associations will ask for stupid things and politicians who are backing them will be supporting the nonsense request.

How is that different from subsidy?

Would you return the money back after making profits?
if that will cushion the effect and further reduce prices i think it should be welcomed cos that money is not enough to buy these same government officials SUVs annually.

If PETROAN would mop-up all the arbitrary gains they made ripping off Nigerians by increasing their prices immediately on old stock, it should amount to more than 150 billion naira.

Nonsense and ingredients.

Dr Gills-Harry, I think the question will be, exactly how much are we going to be buying fuel at the pump station if FG provides this 100bn naira intervention fund to your association?

U r very foolish to make such demand. This one can't survive without subsidy, just like fish can't survive outside water. They were d one's trying to milk d country dry through corrupt subsidy that wasn't there in d first place now they want to introduce it through d back door in d name of grant.

Those that were saying subsidy is back can now testify that subsidy is gone long time ago. They can't take us back to that bleak days.

This is one out of many associations in the upstream and downstream sector of the petroleum industry that benefited immensely in the subsidy regime and is fighting for the status quo to remain.

These are the people the president ought to have gone after instead of completely removing subsidy and allowing the Nigerian masses to suffer for it.
and how would he go after them??
