Most people that don't have anybody in close contact with them that has raised a child with sickle cell will not really understand how stressful and frustrating it can be.

Even when they survive till adulthood and get married, their spouses always get frustrated when they start having recuring crisis.

IVF with preimplantation genetic screening

At first, I felt this would be a viable option as we could prevent the possibility of offspring inheriting sickle cell. Researching further, however, I realized the considerable strain on the mother to get the conditions needed for a successful procedure. IVF doesn’t have a 100% success rate, so the emotional and physical toll would be immense.

There are a considerable number of risks and preparations for this option, and I’m simply not comfortable with them.

No wonder,if malaria hold me lasan(AA) that I why I treat it every month, unlike my wife can have malaria once a year(AC) this is another strange genotype I don't know it exist

A friend of mine who is AS told me about this. At a time he was dating a lady that was AS and he is also AS.

He was willing to marry her and go through this process to determine the genotype of their offspring before birthing them. He said the only issue is that terminating a potential SS embryo may be much emotional challenge for the woman.

Fortunately or unfortunately for him, the girl's father said he won't allow his daughter marry a Christian(The girl's family are muslims while my friend's family are Christian). So they both went their separate ways and he didn't have to worry about AS/AS genotype wahala again.

SS are not resistant to malaria. AS are the ones that are resistant to severe malaria. SS are actually prone to complicated malaria and the infection can tip them into life threatening crisis.

One copy of S is protective. 2 copies is bad news.

only the first born was susceptible to illness and that as when he was younger

the other two - for them to be down - it is usually a bad case

last born literally has mosquito bites all over his calves - but it is once in a blue moon he actually goes down
