LoanShark:
Please suggest just one better means to take down loan defaulters after you have tried all your possible best
The first rule of credit should be having a guarantor/collateral for the loan.

They were looking for a short cut hence this issue.

PENNY WISE, POUND MUGUN !

Do we have data protection laws at all?

What are the regulatory agencies doing about this? NCC, CBN e.t.c

This loan app uses a centralised bank account. Why cant that be frozen and its handlers arrested and brought to justice?
Not excusing the supposed defaulters but many countries have had a credit system for decades. Even houses are bought on a mortgage (credit) and people do default but we never see such happen.

We have a credit bureau agency and the loan app should have done their due diligence before handing our cash. If recipients default, there are civil ways of handling it without committing a crime

I know some businesses can be cunny and I don't rate loan sharks highly but what do you think about agreements? Do you think they are wrong to behave this way when you defaulted on the agreement you signed for?

I am nit judging you but look at those street guys or capone, will you say the same thing to them?

If you must take loan, take from only your friends and family members.

If you do not have close friends or family members who can loan money to you when you really need it, it is your fault.
Why? What's wrong with borrowing from App and
refusing to pay back?

Loan companies have taken to social media platform TikTok to shame and mock loan defaulters by posting their passport details online. This alarming practice aims to publicly humiliate individuals who have failed to repay their loans, in an attempt to coerce them into settling their debts.

The move has sparked widespread criticism, with many condemning the tactic as unethical and invasive. Privacy concerns are being raised, as sensitive personal information is being shared without consent.

Regulatory bodies and authorities are being urged to intervene and establish stricter guidelines for loan companies to prevent such exploitative practices.

Notify the legal authorities so that they will do what?

Will they go and recover the loans for you?
Arrest them for theft?

After all a loan company would probably have their NIN and BVN easy to track

At times it's very difficult to get funds but loan app should not be an alternative. My issue is flexi that palmpay put in their app. At times u will want to withdraw money from your account and u will mistakenly press their flexi. They won't even give u the chance to correct it. They will credit you and demand for interest immediately. Is there anyway one can remove this totally
If all you said is true. That looks fraudulent.
Stop using Palmpay and switch to opay then.

Hang on, what legal means do you mean?
Do you suggest a loan app company should pay lawyers to sue a person that borrowed 30k, 40k, even 500k? How much will you pay lawyers and how many years will it be in court, what of inflation? Even if the company is able to get justice in court, is it enforceable? How many of those people have assets to recover, what of the cost of getting bailiffs along with police to enforce the judgement?
.
There is nothing stopping them from including the legal cost in their prosecution

Even they spend all that money, most Nigerians (especially defaulters) are terrified of prison, a defaulter might not care about his reputation but he would care about eating watery beans with a bunch a sexually starved deviants. That would probably a better scaring the next set of defaulters into behaving.

They have done their worst in this case

That is not what it means since the companies can continue to damage the people as they see fit. In a place like Nigeria where the right of the individual can be easily trampled on, if care is not taken, these people can even be kidnapped only to have an organ extracted as payment. undecided

I don't think it is a criminal matter so there may be nothing like prison or eating beans and so that is not a deterent.
Talking of your suggestion to include legal cost in their prosecution, so you default on eg 25k loan, not just you but 1000 people, you expect the loan company to pay lawyers 500k for each case, then add the cost of 500k to the amount claimed, ie loan amount with interest + damages+ 500k then take eg 5years in court, the loan company wins, the defendant appeals, another 3 years, then it goes to supreme Court for another 5 years, all ontop 25k loan for 1000 people. Lol.
Meanwhile everyday court sits, the company will pay lawyers appearance fees of eg 30k.
By the time you spend 10-15 years in court if the case goes fast, that money will be worth 10 kobo due to inflation, the defandant will pay your from his wallet. Lol
Truth of the matter is that naija is a high stakes, high risk market for loan business, to recover your money you have to use unconventional means. The average Nigerian will not pay you without a fight. Abi you never lend persin money before?

This should not be allowed. What is the government doing to address it? There are alternative ways to hold defaulters accountable.
