This is a different case please. Can you allow a useless teacher to handle your kid like that. She is mad and must be ready to face the music. I am still pained.

But seeing that it was during a one on one teaching session which probably was the teacher going extra mile to help him get his work right, I as his parent won't be too mad at her. He didn't sustain any injury nor was he crying as to show excessive pain. This shows that there was a level of restraint from her although her actions are unacceptable.
There was no shouting, insults or cursing from the teacher. This shows she was still collected and in control of the situation despite not getting the expected result from the kid. She's at fault though and more should be demanded from her but it shouldn't be an overkill.

I believe this is a private school. The person recording this video should have intervened by confronting the teacher and reporting to the head mistress. If nothing is done, then she can report to lagos state government. But then again for those of us that went to military secondary school. This one na moi moi.

Lol. Aunty Buda, a vast majority of Nigerian pupils were subjected to this kind of treatment from their teachers, especially the playful ones, and they came out quite alright. It is outdated and high handed but usually gets the job done. However, there are equally other equally effective means of teaching a pupil who is slow to learn. So while I disagree with her actions, it shouldn't be an overkill as someone here mentioned. From her body language her intentions are far from malicious

My own mother taught me to read and was much worse. I wouldn't let her teach my own children that way though, because, as jumper524 said, the world has evolved, and there are better ways to teach even what you call "slow to learn", which could be because of bad teaching.

Prior to that, I was "a for apple, b for ball, c for cat, dog, elephant, fish, sheep", at which point a three pronged koboko landed on my head followed by "is that sheep"? With finger pointing to what seemed to me to be a sheep, since where I was coming from goats did not exist. It was at point of koboko landing on my head a few more times and tears streaming down my face that I was eventually clued in to the fact that those squiggly things under the picture were relevant, and after a few more landings of the koboko I could read.

She was too hard on that child but its not a tribal issue. So many teachers still do that in Nigeria.

Some 3 years haven't started talking appropriately not to talk of writing numbers.

Is that the best way to teach a 3 yr old how to write 6 See ehn, these innocent kids are not the cause of the teachers' problems. So instead of pouring your frustrations on someone else's child, it's better you look for another job and leave teaching for those who have the patience to do it. That child is just too young for all that headache.

On point. Growing up I think we received worse than this but the world has gone soft these days. Not justifying her actions tho.
Still she should be warned and this should not be an overkill as you mentioned, probably this is her own understanding of making the kid learn which is getting kinda outdated.

It's easy to judge another person when you're not in their shoes. I believe the teacher must have had her record in the school. If it says she's a habitual brute, then it can be concluded that she isn't fit for the job but if not, then she should be queried and left to continue her job. Working with kids can be tough. Passing through the Nigerian schools, things like this aren't rare to find. It shouldn't be condoned but what I saw in the video isn't a scenario that warrants a state punishment yet.

Working with kids is not any different. All you need is love them like your own. I have taught children at different levels before. I taught with kindness and love and till date, it still flashes in my memory how the children would shout and run everywhere whenever I step into the school. Anyway, truth be told, I wasn't a classroom teacher. I taught computer and I would go twice a week.

Three is a bit too young even for us Naija folk ...then again that is my assumption.

This is where it starts from. This is why Nigerians have to be whipped to stay in a queue. Because we have been raised like animals from childhood, like animals we can only respond to a stick and cannot be counted on to use common sense.

Are you assuming all we Nigerians are like you that only responds to beatings?

Some of us were beaten so much that beating no more scares us. Even the ultimate beating which is the threat of hell does not work because we are not animals and instead have brains in our heads that we know how to use.

Your kids might indeed turn out to be animals that respond to sticks if you raise them like animals who respond to sticks, but if you raise them like humans and with love they'd likely turn out as lovely humans.

Some teachers need to level up regarding how to ensure learning works.
