My brother I'm a Millennial. So many of us went through worse and today we are thriving as adults.

Even back then, if a teacher took it too far and caused bodily harm on a pupil, the teacher was punished, but a vast majority of them stopped short at injuring us. See, society has evolved and what was acceptable then is no longer acceptable now. As a parent if a teacher handles my child the way this woman handled this little boy, I'll complain to the school authorities and demand she is retrained or reassigned to another class, but I will not go to the extent of having her arrested because I recognize that she is using a method from an era that is now gone.

She may now go to jail on top N20,000 job. Teaching job in private schools is slavery and can drive someone crazy, plus the stress that the children give you.

But seeing that it was during a one on one teaching session which probably was the teacher going extra mile to help him get his work right, I as his parent won't be too mad at her. He didn't sustain any injury nor was he crying as to show excessive pain. This shows that there was a level of restraint from her although her actions are unacceptable.
There was no shouting, insults or cursing from the teacher. This shows she was still collected and in control of the situation despite not getting the expected result from the kid. She's at fault though and more should be demanded from her but it shouldn't be an overkill.
Prejudice and sentimentality can make one alter proportionate judgement. Intentions and actions are things a good judge consider before delivering a verdict.

I believe this is a private school. The person recording this video should have intervened by confronting the teacher and reporting to the head mistress. If nothing is done, then she can report to lagos state government. But then again for those of us that went to military secondary school. This one na moi moi.

You observed the situation well.
It's either the abuse is a norm in the school (all the teachers perpetuate this abuse)or the culprit had done this over and over and won't listen to voice of reason from others hence the discrete recording.
May God protect our children in situations where we ain't available to intervene

The slap is hard on d kid......i remember my daughter first week at school she refuse to learn & answer any questions from her teacher,she was flogged,she cried & slept off afterwards she learned & does her school work better coming first in all her exams to this day.
I tried to teach my son at home it was not successful after teaching him A,B,C coming to C he forgets A no amount of beating can make him improved until i move him to another school he is top of his class & can read well at basic 1....teachers are trying familiarity with parents cannot make them read.

The sad part of the whole issue is that parents encourage and deliberately ask the teachers to do this. You will get to see a child's parent call the teacher via the mobile phone then ask or compel the teacher to torture the child very well for not doing well in school

May I ask you what “thriving” means in this context?

And wouldn’t it be better to “thrive” without having to endure corporal punishment first? Lots of people didn’t suffer in their childhood and are fine too. Maybe even better off?

Your problem is that you're just too emotional. Go and reread what I wrote again. I didn't justify her action in any way. I CONDEMNED IT entirely. My main focus is on how she should be disciplined. From the video I saw here, my judgement was that there wasn't any malicious intent from her to harm the child. She continued teaching the child and didn't show extreme signs of frustration. These are things to consider when judging her.

Onukwu, stop being emotional and read my comments again. I did condemn the teacher's heavy handedness. I won't tolerate such for my child but won't be mad at the teacher. Her intent from the video didn't appear malicious.

First off ...she is asking the child to write ... not spell ...to write "siss"....why wouldn't the child not be confused?..... at three years old he is too young to figure out she means "six". If the kids' parents paid more attention and were more engaged with the school they would've already gone to the school to inquire why their children be counting " one...two ...shree ... four ... five ... sisss .... sheven ..... It's outrageous that she should be slapping him for not writing siss .... or shree .... or sheven. If it were a male teacher I would think he gay and trying to push that gay style speech. They need to check her qualifications .

What would I have done if the child was mine?
I would likely warn the teacher, never to try such again. I have had to warn my children's HM at a time.
But arresting a hungry teacher is overkill and a show of power.
