The heat is probably one of many factors responsible for these wild fires, I think the fact that California has a ton of vegetation might be another contributing factor, also add human activities which can kindle these fires.

Yes I use to think those wildfires are caused by those camping and didn't put off their fire properly

Drought and the severity of the unrelenting strong winds this time around. Santa Ana also has a unique topography. While it is considered a valley, it is surrounded by mountains, which builds strong winds that spread the fire faster. California wild fires are not unusual but the warm winds have been the biggest factor this time around. i doubt they had enough rain to help mitigate some of the drought.

The strong winds are not cool winds. The wind is warm/hot, combine that with very dry forest vegetation, drought and you have fuel capable of igniting fire that spread across large areas.
