A car of 21yrs old? If it were human, it is eligible to vote and can be married with a child.

I step out of Lagos searching for a reliable camry 2004. I saw many dealers on Jiji and nairaland. I visited each of them with my reliable mechanic.
After checking several cars, we discovered that none of the Nigerian used cars is worth buying .
They always have one problem or the other. The most common is bad engines.

Many dealers even promised to give my mechanic 100k behind my back to convince me to buy this melon car.

It's crazy that with 4.5 million, all you can get is a bad car.
We return home disappointed.

On getting home. I went back to check my own car that I have been driving for 5 years. My engine, gear, and ac are still in perfect condition and I wonder if those putting their car on sale are those with major problem.

Nigeria dealers have ruined the used car market.
Is this a problem with toyota or because the car is a lower year.

I didn't consider other brands. Maybe it would have been a different situation.

At the moment, we are considering buying Tokunbo direct or on installment payment in order to evade this madness in the Nigerian used car Market

I bought my Nigerian used toyota matrix 2007 for 4m early December. I waited 3months before getting it, wasn't easy at all. Engine and gear dey very sound. Drove from lagos to osun during December no issue at all. I still dey enjoy am

The camry 2004 is notorious for bad/weak engines after prolonged use majorly cos of poor maintenance culture with Nigerians.

The engine suffers alot in daily usage and cos its a Toyota they feel it doesn't require routine maintenence until faults appear, by then the engine is gone or starting to deteriorate.

I was thinking the same thing. My brother bought a car of 1.9M, used it for five years and sold it for 4.9M

If you have time, visit police stations and inspect their accident car sections.

Most of these yahoo! boys crash their toys after drinking.
Once you see the type you want, talk to any police officer in charge of those bonded vehicles. He or she will ask you to rogger him/her o.
They would give you the contact of the owner and you will buy it very cheaply. Police could have stolen the jack, C-caution, battery or spare tires 🛞 before you buy it because that’s what they did in my own case.

When a container truck crashed into our vehicles at a certain place that year, I was the most affected because I was at the back. More than 10 vehicles were affected in that holdup.

The police at a certain station I don’t want to mention came and towed our vehicles there. They were still the ones that called Ladipo boys and other buyers to come and talk to us and buy cheap vehicles.

I sold my Elantra that was worth N1.5m that year for N130k, after I got a cheque of N1m from the insurance company of the owner of container truck, a very nice baba, after his driver ran away.

The buyer was even asking me if I knew the owners of every other vehicles there so that he can reach out to them and buy those cars.

You will see the type you want, cheaply, that would need minor repairs. You may even be lucky it’s a tokunbo that they recently bought and crashed due to excessive speeding.

Most of the mechanic would have sweet mouth a bad car for you to buy inorder to get his own share from the car seller..... This is more reason I advice people who intend to buy a car should try as much as possible to get a tokunbo... All this naija used car are just packaging

Leave the so-called popular brands, cut off the middlemen and agents deal directly with the owners you will get a better deal.

If you re bold enough go up north, they re not greedy like the south.
