Car dealers on nairaland are just to have an idea of the price range of the car you want to buy. Most of them advertise Nigerian used cars for the price of tokumbo.

The Muscle I bought at apapa, I used it for close to 2 years before it started giving me issues.

Also it's an accident car, has lots of sensor light on I didn't check well until I took it home.

Oh well, Nigeria or anywhere else, people rarely sell their cars because they are sick of it and want to get something new, used cars market is where you need a good and trusted mechanic, luck and prayers.
Some sellers will sincerely tell you what the problem is, many others will make God their witness stressing the car is perfect even when it is far from that.
Foreign used? A used car is a used car, cars start to wear the second they're driven off the lot, and like I said, these foreign used cars often have their own issues, we just tend to want to believe it is the jealous neighbour or wicked step mum that has looked at the car with evil eyes lol, or some unskilled mechanic did something.
Many foreign used car sellers have a long list of body work pros, mechanics and rewires 😂 they'll put together or patch up anything to look nice, engine, trans, seats or even dash, etc, I have seen this, that Nigerian used car seller should probably be trusted more than the popular foreign used car dealer.
If you have eyes for details, some of these things can be caught just by looking at, frame of car, nuts on engine and trans, slightly different colours of bumper to body, etc, most of these foreign used cars are accidented☹️, someone bought a Toyota Corolla 2017 accidented, a year after bought Toyota highlander 07 ( also accidented lol) that one even overheated the same weak and was lucky engine didnt go, the week after it was AC compressor, then condenser 😂 and then the battery, the car has the timing chain noise on start up already.
Consider other brands, not so old cars, and maybe start looking at cars bought brand new in Nigeria.

Which EOD. What does it guzzle? Money or Fuel? Most people hate honda cars until you own one. I have a EOD, I bought nigerian used 6 months ago for 2.2m. I changed the engine and since then. I've put over 5k miles on the guy and it's doing pretty fine. The only expenses is just my own youthful desire. Like buying screen, buying some fancy light and all those funny stuffs. I'm still 23 lol. Lemme enjoy my youth. 😆 🤣 😂

I used to have Eod, and it drank fuel a lot. I will buy 1000 fuel every day, this was 2010! How much did you spend daily fueling eod now?

Why can’t they be upfront with the owners and tell them that the car they’re trying to sell is scrap? Why is it so hard for them to be honest with the owners ? I don’t mind buying a car with a bad engine, but the problem arises when it’s sold at the price of one with a sound engine.

I remember when I wanted to sell my van. The first buyer who came, I told him to look for another van. The second buyer mentioned he had borrowed money and needed a van for hauling, but I still advised him to find a different one. Eventually, I sold it to someone who only needed it for body parts, and we’re still friends to this day.

95% of people selling their cars is because it's faulty. They've repaired and repaired and are tired of repairing it so they'll just put it up for sale.

That's why I tell people to avoid Nigerian used cars cos na problem you de buy. They money you'll spend in fixing it would exceed the amount you spent in buying it.

Go to apapa those cars coming in from the ship, negotiate with a dealer, pay and carry your car home. You'll use it for up to 2 years before it starts giving you any major issue .

Nigeria dealers have ruined the used car market.
Is this a problem with toyota or because the car is a lower year.

I didn't consider other brands. Maybe it would have been a different situation.

At the moment, we are considering buying Tokunbo direct or on installment payment in order to evade this madness in the Nigerian used car Market

You should have taken it back with the involvement of police and court threat since they intentionally hid all these major problems from you and presented the car as faultless

Many car dealers are greedy hence very dishonest.

You will see many of them on Nairaland using phrases like ‘barely driven’, ‘owner’s second car’,
‘everything intact’.

Thereby pricing Naija used cars in the range of Tokunbo, some will rub the car with pomade and wear condoms on the seat to advertise their dead cars.
