Captain Ahmed Buhari Bature. At just 29 years old he is already a Captain in the Nigerian Army, and deservedly so! At the 2017 Nigerian Defence Academy's NDA, Passing Out Parade POP, of cadets of the 64 Regular Course of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Bature received the highest number of awards including the sword of honour usually given to the best overall cadet.

He practically swept all the awards on offer at that POP. He set a record; the first cadet and only till date in the history of the Academy to win all awards at stake.

Some of the awards he won include the ‘Indian Shield’, which is given to the best in cadet tactics; ‘Gold Medal Army’, which is given to the overall best among the army (cadets); and the ‘Golden Sword of Honour’, given to the best all-round cadet in academics, military courses, character and discipline.

Bature not only emerged the best in his department, as well as the final year of his training at the academy, but was also the Academy Cadet Adjutant (ACA). The ACA, according to military sources, is the most senior cadet, and more or less the de facto administrator of his set in the academy. He oversees all the affairs of his set and liaises with the military authorities in the academy on their behalf.

It is said that an ACA is a potential future Chief of Army Staff, and is so prized, protected and honoured. As the youngest ACA so far, Bature ‘administered’ over 2,300 cadets, arguably the largest ever in the history of the academy. He was only 22 then!

So impressed and awed by the military of the young man's feat, it had to erect his statue in the school to perpetuate the memory of his sheer brilliance, focus, hard work and exceptional life of discipline. That put him in the military's Hall of Fame. And recently, at the Junior Command and Staff College Course 75, in Pakistan, he made Nigeria proud by emerging as the best foreign student.

He is from Sokoto state, and the third child of four children of his parents, three male and a female, Ahmed was raised by a disciplinarian father. Born on Christmas day, 1994, he attended Federal Staff primary school, Sokoto and Usmanu DanFodiyo University Secondary school, Sokoto.

He thereafter enrolled at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University's pre-degree school before he gained admission to the NDA in 2012 for a degree in Computer Science. Through his consistent, sheer brilliance and discipline, he became a prep winger within a short time; it meant training other cadets who joined the academy for short service.

His going to England for further training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst had to be deferred because he had become so valuable at training and mentoring other cadets.

I think he should Omit that Buhari from his name and only used Ahmed Bature. I find it so disturbing when I see rational humans bearing such a name only meant for dogs and dullàrds.

Let him go for his career advancement course as when due please. There are military drill instructors and trainers to do the job. Besides when he has completed his platoon/battle commander course @ Sandhurst or senior staff course he can returned back for that responsibility. Time waits for no one.

NDA was my dream back in the days-becoming an air force cadet and graduating to fully join the NAF but it was not meant to be because GOD chose another life path for me.

Connection alone can't get one into NDA and keep you in the system. You must be destined and built (mentally and physically) else you won't make it out or even get inside in the first place.
