Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been impeached by members of the House, News360 Nigeria reports.

The lawmakers subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.

Also, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly removed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko

Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the assembly by Obasa. Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the assembly.

Meanwhile, armed personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS; Lagos Task Force, and the Police have taken over the premises and environs. They turned back motorists and persons from gaining access.

Obasa, was in a gestapo manner, impeached by members. His erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Meranda-Lasbat, was made substantive Speaker.

Thugs invasion

Some miscreants, who were trying to invade the complex, were intercepted and arrested by the security personnel and clamped into waiting Black Maria.

Charms and amulets were also recovered from the miscreants believed to be supporters of Obasa from Agege.

Mojisola Meranda takes oath of office
Taking her oath of office, Meranda said: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly;

“That I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
