Surrender to FG now, PeacePro tells IPOB

The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has called on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to lay down their arms and surrender to the federal government of Nigeria.

The group recalled the historic Biafra surrender to the federal government on January 13, 1970, which marked the end of the Nigerian civil war, urging IPOB to let the repeat of such happen now.

PeacePro, in a statement on Monday by its executive director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, while commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the Biafra surrender to federal government, emphasised the importance of respecting the peace agreement that prioritised reconciliation and national unity.

Hamzat said as a human rights ambassador, IPOB’s armed struggle and violent approach contradict the peaceful resolution embraced by Biafran leaders five decades ago.

PeacePro reminded IPOB that the declaration of “No Victor, No Vanquished” by the federal government laid the foundation for rebuilding and reintegration, urging the group to choose dialogue over conflict.

“The continued pursuit of violence by IPOB dishonours the memory of those who chose peace to stop further bloodshed in the South-east during the Biafra war,” PeacePro stated.

PeacePro also criticised calls for the unconditional release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, without a commitment to peace, describing it as a misguided approach that cannot achieve lasting stability or development,” PeacePro noted.

See Abdulrazaq Hamzat, a Fulani, minotity giving command to 50,000,000 people. On what ground did this slowpoke get the gut to spew this nonsense if not for the greediness of Igbo politicians and leaders of thought to sell out for money and fame? Mùmū people.

Imagine the UN telling Palestine to surrender to Israel. IPOB simply means an ideology for the emancipation of the Igbo nation. It's a self-determination call, not a group. Nnamdi Kanu or IPOB isn't the first group to call for a referendum in Eastern Nigeria to determine the fate of the people. There are other seven groups still hitting the same drum.

No country or group can shut down the call for self-determination through a democratic means called a referendum. It's a UN protocol and the right of every indigenous people in the world.

This people should lie low let sanity return to the east. Coming with this type of empty publication will not only cause people to revisit terms of the surrender 54 years ago but also if the terms are followed 100%.

Simon Ekpa has shown how vulnerable and easily pregnable the Nigerian security is with his countless sit at home that went unchallenged through out the east. If another Ekpa is forced or coerced to come out again, it might not be business as usual.

We thank God ekpa was arrested otherwise there would not have been any Xmas celebrations invite east.

Even the Chief of Defence Staff has openly admitted that Simon Ekpa was his greatest headache on multiple occasions. For four years, Ekpa imposed sit-at-home orders across the East without opposition. Any attempt to challenge him was met with brutal and severe hit back on security agents that only underscored the failure of Nigerian security forces.

I am no fan of Ekpa or Kanu, but they have exposed to the world that achieving Biafra is far from impossible. Through swift and vicious maneuvers, they have revealed the glaring vulnerabilities and weaknesses of Nigeria’s security .

If Finland hadn’t intervened or if Ekpa had been operating from a country intent on crippling Nigeria, Biafra would already dominate global discussions.

You're very right—the entire Southeast suffered immensely under Ekpa's madness. This is why it's crucial for non-Easterners to tread carefully on Biafra issues.

The wrong statement coming from the wrong person could pave the way for another Ekpa, one who learns from his mistakes and executes faster and more calculated devastating strategies.

Imagine if Ekpa had avoided forcing unnecessary sit-at-home orders, declared the Biafra Republic strategically during a non high-impact period instead of an off-season like December, and operated from an enemy nation hostile to Nigeria.

We wouldn't be having this debate on Nairaland; the situation would have escalated beyond control, leaving the country grappling with a much greater crisis.

Should there have been Ipob as a group or perhaps, the support the group received at the beginning?

Everything is not politics and shouldn't be. There was so many sincere debate/arguments about why Ipob as a group should be rejected because of the consequences which this thread is all about .

The end sars protest which affected mostly South regions which others have moved on and even forgotten about it, South East is still swimming around not even yet to find a way out.

I doubt if there is any country interested in disintegration of Nigeria and willing to work with Biafra agitators.
Biafra agitation lack international support that is just the simple truth.

You are so correct. Let me paint a picture for you. Today is Armed Forces Remembrance Day across the country. If Simon Ekpa were still at the peak of his tyranny, he would have declared a total sit-at-home across the entire Southeast, threatening brutal and vicious crackdowns against any security agents who dared defy him. And let’s be honest—who, in their right mind, would have had the courage to disobey?
Even Tinubu would never have dared to step foot in Enugu.

Thank God they didn’t have access to anti-aircraft weapons. And thank God there is no Simon Ekpa today to impose his iron grip over the Southeast, paralyzing movement and enforcing his authority with fear and violence. The region can finally breathe, free from his reign of terror.

Thank God there is no country to back Biafra at the moment, but here is what I noticed.
Nigeria once championed the breakup of Morocco to create Western Sahara and advocated for a two-state solution in Israel. Yet, Biafra, despite knowing this, failed to leverage those precedents to secure strategic alliances. A simple outreach to these nations could have turned the tide, but no such foresight was displayed.

Yes, Biafra lacked international support, but that failure wasn’t entirely external—it also stemmed from the glaring lack of creative and strategic thinking .

When the Russia-Ukraine war began, the opportunity was clear. Aligning with Russia, especially as Nigeria openly sided against Moscow, could have been a game-changer. Nigeria’s attempt to sabotage Russia by supplying gas to Europe via the Trans-Saharan pipeline presented a perfect opening. But instead of capitalizing on the moment, Biafra stood idle, squandering a golden opportunity.

Now, with Simon Ekpa’s arrest, Biafra finds itself back to square one—leaderless, directionless, and with nothing to show for decades of struggle. All momentum has been lost, and the movement is once again back to square zero after wasting lives and time.

Bro the current agitation for Biafra lack legitimacy in the eyes of international community and no country can strike any legitimate deal with a group who are proscribed.ipob is not politically in control of any territory in Eastern Nigeria so on what basis would any country take them serious? the region in question have leaders democratically elected by the people every four years. These elected leaders are the recognised leaders of Igboland who are in position to make demand or speak on behalf of their people not ipob.

If SE governors forum makes a demand tomorrow for referendum the world will listen because they are elected by the people.
And secondly no nation want to support a group they know have no capacity to win.
If ipob is fighting for state capture, Russia and other greedy nations may give their support to overthrow an unfriendly government and install a proxy government but secession is very delicate and Russia hardly support seccssionist groups because they have separatist movements in their own country too.Mind you they fought bloody war to stop Chechnya independent struggle.

If Syria rebels were fighting for a separate country many countries would not have supported them more especially Turkey.
But fighting for change of regime they will get support from enemies of the government both local and international support.

This fool is barking up the wrong tree! Why should IPOB surrender when they’re not attacking anyone!? These fools know the groups they should be addressing in any call for peace, and the Nigerian gov’t is top on the list! Leave IPOB TF alone!

Were we to check if and how the 3Rs have been implemented in the south-east/Alaigbo, Mr Hamzat, that’s if he’s honest with himself, may even ask to join IPOB in their agitation!

Don’t make the mistake (unless of course you’re intentionally being mischievous) of using the engineered insecurity and red-flag operations in the south-east to make any judgement on the security situation in the region! The south-east, despite all these incidents of insecurity, is probably still faring better than your own region!
