kettykin:the i:gbos had need for the coup and greed fueled that need because they wanted control of the Western region revenues and institutions.. Eastern region does not start and end with igbos.. the Eastern region major revenue was not coming from the i:gbo dominated parts it was coming from Cross River, Port Harcourt and the present day Bayelsa state. you are grossly mis-informed |

codemaniacs:There is a difference between coup plotters who happened to be ibos and ibos. The coup plotters failed so we will never know their intentions. Because the ibos that took over after the failed coup were the typical ibos, they acted in typical ibo fashion hence their brothers were not tried and Awolowo remained in prison, decree34 was promulgated etc. Like I have said many times, there is evidence to show that the coup plotters may have been revolutionary, patriotic, nationalist and not sectarian……unfortunately for them and history……and for the ibos, they failed! So we will never truly know. What I will say is that the coup plotters do not represent typical ibos and they ended up handing over power to typical establishment ibos who acted like typical fashion. I said in a previous post that I believe 95% that the coup was not an ibo coup. The 5% is because the ibos were already losing/lost influence at the center, a successful Balewa/Akintola alliance would have further dented the influence of the east so there is that 5% chance it could have been an ibo centric coup such that the only hand left to play was to install Awolowo since he was already in alliance with NCNC anyway. We don’t know. On the balance of probability, I am willing to believe it wasn’t an ibo coup but the actions of the ibos since have not helped their perception. |

Be mindful a one sided story coming from a gullible and transactional individual who loves to distort history to favour his paymasters! Interestingly, any time the eyes of some politicians from the north are about to be open about the hypocrisy of some certain individuals from the west, propaganda machinery will start reminding them of 1966 just so that the alliance will continue despite their disagreements! It's the same machinery successfully used to keep everyone divided knowing it serves their purpose! My question is why should the actions of a few individuals be used to exert revenge or blame on the region where they come from? Why should an individual or citizens from the middle belt be blamed for the actions of yakubu gown or should the citizens from the South East be made responsible for the actions of agu ironsi? Why blame the collective actions of few military men to assassinate individuals from a certain region on the citizens of the states where these individuals come from? Do the Jews still blame today Germans for the wicked acts of Adolf Hitler? All I know is that it's easy for politicians to keep average Nigerians apart....just use religion and ethnic bigotry! |

2elliot:from the early 1900s even before Nigeria's almagation of northern and southern Nigeria.. Nnamdi Azikwe's father was working for the Bri:tish as a secretary and hundreds if not thousands of other i:gbos were also working for the bri:tish all over Nigeria because the Bri:tish favored them and not because other tribes were not qualified and un-educated. why would igbos attack Bri:tish that favored them and in 1960 when the British left Nigeria they handed it over to the i:gbos.. it would have been very foolish of the igbos to attack the Bri:tish that favored them over other ethnic nations in Nigeria. the i:gbos and igbo leaders of that era believed they had the population and power to subjugate the entire country but you are too igbocentric to see this and acknowledge it. Don't i:gbos of this 2025 era also believe they have the power and population to subjugate the Yorubas and take over Lagos and its political structure or you are just too igbocentric to accept this |

diamond68:It's common knowledge that Yorubas fought and won the biafra war for Nigeria.. likes of Murtala and the other Northerners were just losing soldiers as biafra forces were annihilating them.. Story changed when Yorubas took command of the battalions invading biafra. The only Military advance defunct biafra republic had was led by a Yoruba man by name Victor Banjo.. seeing his Military prowess made the Igbos jittery and they lied to Ojukwu that Banjo was a sellout working for Nigeria which wasn't even enough reason for Ojukwu to have him killed .. what followed after was total destruction for Ojukwu and his biafran army (including foreign mercenaries from France, South Africa and likes). Benjamin Adekunle a.k.a Black Scorpion was a fearsome and gallant Yoruba warrior that did exploits.. God continue to rest his soul. |

casualobserver:I am an Ijaw man from Gbarain clan in Bayelsa state; I am not an Igbo man. I am one of those rare people who look beyond religion, tribe and what have you. Today, I will defend the likes of Dele Farotomi, Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho, Ibrahim Traore and a few others with my life and everything I have because these men share in my truth and we have a lot in common. Look, I was and remain one of the greatest critics of Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Edwin Clark, Asari, and others from my Ijaw tribe who are incompetent or do not support the truth. So, when I speak in favour of the Igbos pertaining these events, I speak in line with my nature. I know what I have seen and passed through for speaking the truth. I come from a place that has oil and its politics is as deep as our national politics. |

2elliot:He was commissioned by the Government of Nigeria to quell Ojukwu's rebellion which he did to the best of his abilities.. God is a warrior Himself and understands Rules of engagement in warfare. That's why the language used in the Armed Forces is "Victory" cos only God gives victory to deserving side in any warfare. |
