Alaafin: Defend your actions in Court, avoid media trial - Oyomesi 2 Gov Makinde by fergie001(op): 4:59pm On Jan 15, 2025
Kingmakers in Oyo have challenged Governor Seyi Makinde to present any evidence he has against them in court and refrain from his campaign of calumny against their personalities.

Recall that Makinde, in disregard to the recommendation of the Oyomesi’s nomination of Prince Lukman Gbadegesin, appointed a new Alaafin of Oyo.

In his speech at the presentation of staff of office to the new Alaafin, the Governor made claims that the Kingmakers have now described as unacceptable.

They expressed their displeasure in a letter to the Governor signed by their legal representative, Adekunle Sobaloju SAN, include High Chief Yusuf Akínade, Bashorun of Oyo; High Chief Wakeel Akindele, Lagunna of Oyo; High Chief Hamzat Yusuf, Akinniku of Oyo; Chíef Wahab Oyetunji, warrant chief stand-in for Asipa of Oyo, and Chief Gbadebo Mufutau, warrant chief stand-in for Alapinní of Oyo.

“We recognize Your Excellency’s right to defend your actions in court, given the ongoing legal challenge to your recent decision. However, we respectfully remind Your Excellency that the court is the appropriate forum for presenting evidence and arguments. The Oyomesi, in their respect for the high office of the Governor of Oyo State, have refrained from joining issues with you in the public arena. It is, therefore, disheartening that Your Excellency continues to make public statements that cast aspersions on their integrity.

“We urge Your Excellency to refrain from resorting to a trial by media or the court of public opinion in a bid to confer legitimacy on recent unlawful acts of the state, under your command. If there is any evidence to support these allegations, we respectfully advise that it should be brought before the court, where it can be properly examined and addressed. Publicly maligning the Oyomesi, who custodians of tradition and highly respected in the Oyo Kingdom, undermines not only their reputation but also the sanctity of the ongoing judicial process and defamatory of our clients.”

They added that they have maintained their integrity and remained committed to upholding the traditions and customs of the Oyo Kingdom and as such consider the continued attempt at public trial of their character as unwarranted and unbecoming of the high standards expected of the office of the Governor.

“Please recognize that you remain liable to prosecution for the defamatory acts committed by you in office, for which you may be held accountable after your period of immunity is over,” they added.

Either ways, I'm surprised the Gov really sidelined the Oyomesi in a process as sacred as this

Lol. These men from this region are indeed clowns. See two grown ups disgracing themselves up and down on shosho media.

I only pray for days to hasten for the emirate to take over Oyo state. When the emirate is enthroned all this nonsense will stop.
Hisbah the moral police will be there to regulate the lives of all these urchins in that region.

Lol 😂 court of IFA or which court? Anyway this is normal and expected. Even the late Alafin of Oyo passed through this too when he made King.

Traditional stool be sustained by traditional legitimacy. It is an abominable desecration of tradition for a Governor to use veto power and political influence to install his stooge as a King. it will always backfire and it will take years to recover from it. Kano is yet to recover from Ganduje's interference in the emir stool. They will eventually give power to an already bastardized judiciary to determine who becomes the king like they determine who becomes the president of Nigeria or the governor.

Social media is making a lot of people shameless and disrespectful. Even people, who ordinarily can't look you in the eye and say rubbish undecided..

The governor has been doing well, I equally trust him to do the right thing in this regard...

Seyi Makinde is a useless governor.

He could as well take over the the jobs of medical doctors in a state owned hospital if he thinks he is right for taking over the job of the Oyo mesis and imposed a candidate on them

How will governor in his right sense be consulting ifa priests to choose a king sidelining the king makers completely

After all either Oyo mesi chiefs or Seyi won't be forever but Seyi should know that he can only hold on to power for a limited time while the Oyo mesi empire stand 4ever

Matured reaction from Oyomesi. There's no need going back and forth on here.

I just don't really like him anymore he finally fell my hand deeper when he was soo busy about Naomi and Oriyomi and ISWAP are penetrative his state.
