A private from 🇷🇺 Russia’s Far East republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has been awarded the title of Hero of Russia after fatally stabbing a Ukrainian soldier in brutal hand-to-hand combat in a widely circulated video, according to a decree published by the Kremlin on Saturday.

Andrei Grigoriev, 38, was awarded the title for “demonstrating courage and heroism,” the Kremlin said.

In the graphic video, recorded on a camera attached to a Ukrainian soldier’s helmet in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region last year, Grigoriev can be seen stabbing the soldier with a traditional Yakutian knife multiple times until the victim pleads to allow him to die in peace.

“I want to go on my own…You were the strongest fighter in this world. Farewell,” the Ukrainian soldier told Grigoriev before his death.

The Ukranian soldier was really sloppy and it cost him his life. He appeared injured or atleast disoriented because his movements weren't steady and he fell while approaching the enemy's hideout before the main confrontation. He was probably tired and weak.

He was also heavily stacked with gear (grenade, ammo, even a camera) which is not suitable for close quarter combat because you give the enemy more leeway to grab and maneouvre you during the tussle and you carry more weight which is a restriction on you. The russian was lighter. In fact, the russian used one of the ukranian's grenade to finish him off.

The Ukranian heavily miscalculated too. He performed a technique inadequately. He tried to flush out the enemy using a grenade. Usually as you flush out the enemy, someone is meant to be positioned at the escape point to either surrender or take out the enemy. In his case, he threw in the grenade and couldn't run to the entrance fast enough so the enemy ran out of the enclosure and met him at the sharp bend. That technique is best used when you have assistance.

There are brave men in this world, I salute both soldiers.

The knife combat was more brutal than any movie I've seen. It was a real life or death situation. Kill or be killed.

Hollywood cannot replicate what both soldiers did.

Asian guys are great fighters (partly because they accept death long before the battle starts).

Let hope that is what he wanted, a honorable death in combat.

I watched that and saw blood and evil without mercy. and for what? Ukraine assure us you wont join NATO, everybody on Russia border cannot be NATO, it puts us at risk. A simple we wil not join NATO but EU ends it.
