The full length video was gruesome to say the least. It was a brutal expose on the saying "kill or be killed".

The Ukranian soldier was really sloppy and it cost him his life. He appeared injured or atleast disoriented because his movements weren't steady and he fell twice uninfluenced while approaching the enemy's hideout before before the main confrontation. He was probably tired and weak.

He was also heavily stacked with gear (grenade, ammo, even a camera) which is not suitable for close quarter combat because you give the enemy more leeway to grab and maneouvre you during the tussle and you carry more weight which is a restriction on you. The russian was lighter. In fact, the russian used one of the ukranian's grenade to finish him off.

The Ukranian heavily miscalculated too. He performed a technique inadequately. He tried to flush out the enemy using a grenade. Usually as you flush out the enemy, someone is meant to be positioned at the escape point to either surrender or take out the enemy. In his case, he threw in the grenade and couldn't run to the entrance fast enough so the enemy ran out of the enclosure and met him at the sharp bend. That technique is best used when you have assistance.
