A 23-year-old man identified simply as Success has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly hacking his father to death with a cutlass.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Thursday that the gruesome and shocking machete attack occurred in Amukpe community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State “a few days ago.”

An eyewitness told our correspondent on Thursday that the incident occurred at the family’s residence in Amukpe after Success demanded N5,000 from his father, who, however, refused to oblige him with the demand.

It was gathered that Success did not take kindly to the refusal of the father to grant his request.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Success had a history of substance abuse and was known to exhibit erratic behaviour when under the influence.

“Everyone in this area knows Success as a drug addict who always misbehaved whenever he had taken those drugs”, the neighbour said.

According to the neighbour, “On the fateful evening, Success returned home arguing hotly with his father over the monetary request.”

It was gathered that the altercation escalated, and in a fit of rage, Success reportedly grabbed a cutlass and inflicted a machete attack on the elderly man.

Consequently, the blood-soaked father was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment but sadly succumbed to death as an aftermath of the injuries, sources said.

When contacted on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident stating that “Success has already been taken into custody.”

Many youths in the Delta state area face challenges such as drug addiction and irresponsible behavior, often influenced by some parents, community leaders, and politicians who enable such lifestyles.

At the same time, there are parents who are working hard to raise their children responsibly. Unfortunately, the negative influence of others' irresponsibility—both parents and children—poses a significant challenge to their efforts.

Looking at the demographics, it becomes apparent which ethnic group in Delta State is most affected by such issues, as reports of this nature often emerge from specific regions.

Substance abuse among young people is a serious issue that can lead to tragic consequences, this shows how addiction can destroy families and communities.

Train your children well, and peace would be permanent in your life.

As a father, you need to create that fear in your children, and none of them will ever misbehave to you.Get a very nice cane for them; when they misbehave, flog the hell out of them. not every time you pampered your children like foreigners.

If you failed to train your children, this might be the result later. RIP
