This is what you call project supervision , being on site doing the supervision not is some cozy office or hotel sleeping with 4 legs.

We see the importance of putting competent hands to handle a ministry, square pegs in square holes, competence over sentiments.

Companies that are not delivering should be kicked out of the country.

The era of collecting road contracts; eating the funds and not delivering has come to an end.

So how did he get the contract, all of you are incompetent

Except that person is blind to development. This Umahi is really God's sent. The previous ministers In that ministry didn't know anything at all about engineering..Fashola even tried but what you don't know, you don't know. This Umahi if given the time of 8years in that ministry, he would do wonderfully well. Those performing ministers such as Interior minister, communication Minister, FCT minister, Road Minister should be kept by any coming government just in case T.Pain is booted out in 2027.......

Again, you will think the minister should have delegated people in the ministry or rather there should be a supervisory department in that ministry. Abeg you, don't leave that part of function to those supervisors in the ministry, they always compromise the good work. They are always the one advising the contractors to use substandard products for construction. I am talking from experience, so people shouldn't think that Umahi is doing eye service....he knows Nigerians and their terrible compromise.....it's better he goes and supervise things himself.....he has signed for the job and he's doing it Wella.....

Beside, the supervisory department of that ministry certified it first before the minister said ok, I am coming to see it......this is not photoshopped but government in action....More of this Umahi....

So he did what few, if any ministers had done before him.

He physically entered the road being built to show the foreign contractors the RIGHT WAY to build it, threatening that if they fail to follow his exact instructions henceforth, he would cancel their contract immediately and kick them out of the country.

This is the new Nigeria we want to see, and this is the new Nigeria we have.

My issue is that is he the only Engineer in the Ministry of Works? What are the other supervising Engineers doing? Problem with Nigeria is that progress is tied to individuals instead of institutions. When Umahi goes and they appoint a non-engineer as Minster of Works, all this goes away and the engineers in the filed go back to conniving with contractors to sigh shoddy jobs.

I really don't understand how you guys process information. The guy never said the minister shouldn't monitor the project. He said that blaming the company on TV was just a show and ineffective. That he should blame the project supervisory team (which I am sure are on site with him) to ensure that things like this does not repeat. You have to fix the system that is what the guy meant.

Na wa ooh. I really don't know how you guys do it - insult at first and then comes the brain fog. Maybe the brain fog is as a results of the anger that leads to insult. Maybe if you cool down and instead of typing what comes first to mind (which is insult), you could take a deep breath and let the anger pass. We need to get it right from the beginning of the bidding process by giving the job to companies with excellent track record and be able to hold them accountable to whatever is not done right.

So it takes the minister to come from Abuja to correct what is wrong with roads in Aba? So what happened to the site Engineers deployed by the ministry to supervise the sites? The FERMA officials and state controller of works nko? If in truth technical lapses were seen and were not previously reported by these govt officials? Are they going to be sanctioned or it will return to business as usual as soon as the cameras are off?
Is it the minister's duty to be going round the whole country to measure width of iron rods? What about the project consultants? Where are they?
This is for the gram. It makes no difference in the larger scheme of things

He's the Client. His ministry has reps on site, as well as consultants. If he has to come here to do "demo", it means the entire supervisory team has failed, and they should all be fired!

If, however, as I suspect is the case, they are performing, then the "Ògá Minister" is simply entertaining gullible Nigerians, and the Contractor and other professionals have no choice but to just humour him.

P S: I saw so many mentions about my post above. Many seem to have suspended the use of their brains on the altar of politics..

Check my post again. My point is the video should show him calling out his supervisory team.. how many length of road can he measure by himself.. how many days can he be on the road taking measurements. He has a Supervisory team that report to him on a daily basis. And like many people pointed out, contractors make it a point of duty to first compromise Supervisory Teams.. he should be seem making example of those ones that are clearly compromised so the numerous others can take a cue. That's how to build a corrupt-free Work team, and ensure contractors deliver as agreed without all these unnecessary camera parade.

The problem is that the Minister should not have to come to site before such lapses are reported and flagged for the contractor if some people are doing their jobs

The minstry spends humongous sums to deploy site engineers to every construction site to monitor projects and assess work done. This does not stop the Minister from coming to site but if the Minister is the one coming to site to measure width of rods, then someone is not doing their jobs and the Minister and his PS have a duty to sanction such negligent staff instead of reprimanding the contractor on TV

Ok, after he leaves the site back to Abuja, how is he sure the contractors will take the corrections he made and not just continue doing what they were doing before he came there? I can bet he spent less than 1hr on the site whereas there are Ministry engineers with the contractors 24/7
