Have You Ever Witnessed An Act Of Bravery That Saved One's Life? by jmoore(op): 3:20pm On Jan 17, 2025
Many years ago, I was on the corridor looking around the street. Then I noticed a fast movement and I turned around to catch the glimpse of what was that. A NEPA man was falling down from the ladder. A building blocked my view from seeing how he landed. My guess back then was that it could be fatal, either he hits his head on the gutter or breaks his spinalcord.

I ran down stairs to go near the place. When I reached there, I saw two NEPA men seated on the ground. As I stood there and others were narrating what happened, I got the clearer picture.

While the NEPA official was trying to fix things, he was shocked by electricity. He fell and his colleague positioned his back so he can land on him.

I haven't, but I was once hit by a car while on my way to school... My best friend was the one who witnessed it... Turned out that the driver was partially blind and not fit to be driving... Apparently it wasn't the first time he got out of line while driving, but it wasn't anything serious the first time he did.

In my case, I was the protagonist. It was raining one Saturday afternoon, and I was trying to catch some sleep when I heard the piercing cries of a neighborhood kid.

I raced out to know what was happening and was met with a gory sight of a three year old bleeding from his head. It turned out that he fell and hit his head on the concrete slab in front of the apartment. I wondered for a moment why he was out in the rain.

Immediately, I reached for a rag and tried to stop the bleeding, to no avail. Without further ado, I swooped on him and rushed him to the nearest pharmacy. We were told the wound was very deep and needed a stitch.

We ended up in the hospital and the kid's dad joined us later. When the nurses stitched him up, they didn't put him under anaesthetic and I almost ran mad watching the gory scene, and the pains the kid endured.

One year later, I was passing by when I heard him telling some of his friends that I was the person that took him to a hospital when he fell down. I was moved by his words and was flattered at the same time.

Yea well that was in my uni days ,I went to visit my girlfriend as she was cooking outside the house ..I pleaded with her to go inside and cook in the tiny kitchen she had ,that I wasn't comfortable outside..well she obeyed me and went inside and locked the iron door ..within minutes armed robbers entered the compound and robbed every one outside and those that didn't close their door ..they even shot someone in the back that time....if we were outside they would have robbed us

I see them all the time on YouTube and social media sites. In real life, never, unless you count running into neighbours’ houses to stop fires.

Happened years back like think that was around 2011/12.....My department and i went on an excursion at NNPC Aba from owerri.....So on our way back, we all boarded a minibus headed back to base(Owerri) having not known that the so called driver was an epileptic patient...then the road from ABA to Owerri was just a one way pass and ofcourse always busy with motorists.....My people, can't remember if it happened before the bridge or after the bridge....The driver suddenly was struck by an attack(epilepsy)....started shaking vigorously while unconsciously controlling the steering and his foot jerking on and off the pedal...Omo eh!...it took the strength and composure of the guy seated close to him to wrestle and direct the car to a heap of sand that was heaped in front of someone's compound.....that was where we crashed to a stop and everyone jumped out....People started gathering.....Only for the driver to regain himself after few minutes...He apologised sha!!

Yes! I didn't see but heard.

Years back, my auntie and her family were travelling from Port Harcourt to Enugu. Along the way, her little daughter (of less than 2 years) she was carrying suddenly woke up from sleep and shouted "Mummy, blood.....see blood....see blood".

My auntie's husband who was driving immediately slowed down. When he slowed down, another car overtook them. Lo and behold, an oncoming DAF truck had failed break. The truck rammed into the car that overtook them. Everyone in that vehicle died. Had it been he didn't slow down, the truck would have crushed them.

This was how that small baby saved the whole family.

Re: Have You Ever Witnessed An Act Of Bravery That Saved One's Life? by Proudlyngwa(m):
I have many times.

Me being the hero.

Watch this space I will update at the close of work.

As promised to update.

1. Ikeja bomb blast.
After the initial bomb blast at the Ikeja military cantonment, we returned to collect some of our things with bombs littered everywhere as we were busy parking something moved me outside to check and I had something like a sparkling sound checking it I saw that it was a bomb making a sizzling sound.I immediately raised alarm and everybody run out that was how one of the buildingsI think senior NCO quarters 14 came down luckily for us no life was lost

2. Fire incident .
This was a gas fire issue in one of the apartments I was staying the woman's husband had gone to work and all of a sudden I think the Gas . I can't remember if it was the gas that caught fire on one of those wood used for decoration luckily for us someone who had a fire extinguisher came with his fire extinguisher but I was the only one who knew how to use it in the compound. I was the hero of the compound for like one week

3. Fire incident.
This one was a little bit more tricky because it was the head of the camp gas that just been filled that caught fire they were able to bring the gas out of the kitchen and then everybody took off , expecting it to explode.luckily for me I knew that once the oxygen has been cut off that the fire would go out but the problem was getting the mind to go and cut off the oxygen I had to quickly remove that leaking burner at the head of the camp gas and then the fire extinguished by itself h and this was a girl that does not talk to me, looks down on me maybe say my level no reach , till today she sees me like superman, I dey chop like 10 greetings in a day anything she sees me.

Drowning incident.
Once upon a time when I was schooling in kogi we went to play in one'river called ofu river everybody thought I knew how to swim, unfortunately for me the current was way way above what I could handle, I nearly got carried away, but was lucky to hold on to a branch from a fallen tree, people thoughts that I was enjoying myself not knowing that anytime I open to shout water will just full my mouth it was one girl way younger than me that noticed I was in distress and came to drag me out like I was a piece of cloth.men since that day me and anything river know the follow one road.

Electric shock.
I think this is the most dramatic and the most touching so t there was a heavy rainfall and there's this electric pole that had naked wire on it I think the wire was joined by sellotape after the rain the sellotape may be Gotweak and breeze blew the the wire unto the zinc while some of these poles that carry antenna was by the zinc so some children were playing close to the pole and then one of them around 11 years touched it and got stuck , there was no adult around and all the children around started crying , the younger brother to the girl around 9 years flew on his sister knocking her off, before we could run down there ,that was how that girl got saved .
What ever gave him that idea or courage, I still wonder.

As a field worker there are many more I have encountered, but I don't think this space will be enough to share them.

Near miss
Real hits
Fires
Structural collapse.
Medical evacuation.

Name it I have seen a whole lot of cases.

shocked

Yes, during my searching for cadetship (IT for seafarers). I and my very closed friend boarded a canoe to a nearby vessel at KiriKiri water side. While trying to climbed the scalar to board the small vessel we are to meet one senior bros. He miscalculated and off balance to the deep water. While the canoe was rolling, I just summoned courage held him by his belt side from the water, pulled him up. While trying to gain his balance. He nearly turn the canoe with his weight and frightness all over him. The man paddling the canoe was just looking and not giving any helping hand. Near death experienced. To Almighty God be the glory , we both doing well now. During this period none of us could swim. He was bigger than me in size too. How I did it in split seconds is still mistery to me any time I remember.

In 2017 when we (five prospective corp members plus the driver) were heading to Kano orientation camp for NYSC. As we were approaching Zaria after Nuhu Bamila Polytechnic, we met armed Fulani herdsmen. They robbed us everything in our possessions.

While the robbery was going on and we were all lying down, the only lady among us shouted and it happened that one of the armed robbers was struggling to have sex with her... One of the guys among us without minding the guns stoop up and told the arm robber not to try it. And lo and behold, the armed robber left the lady and they ran into the bush.

Hmmm... Mine happened just last week when I was in my shop, the shop is just meters away from the road.
While enjoying Christ Tomlin on my phone na so I heard a crashing noise outside and what followed was kids shouting La I la ilalahu.... I rushed out at once... I saw a little girl of four flat on the tarred road with her head and face covers with hijab, she was run over by a bike man on high speed.
I picked her up.... Oh God, the baby was going already, I was confused on what to do and no adults nearby just me.
I said no God a child cannot die in my hands this year.
I shouted at her to open her eyes....but she did it just a bit and started closing again..and this girl was just moaning slowly and her body was already weak and hospital is not close by.
Na so I keep shouting begging her not to close her eyes.. I used cold water to pour on her head and also wash her face that was when this girl began to open her eyes properly.
Well, to the glory of God after drinking water she was ok but she was later rushed to hospital by her parents.

She and ten of her siblings were on their way to islamia.

I cried like a baby for a baby I don't even know.

Doctors in the house what can one do in a situation like this?

We were in pickup truck going to school not knowing the back truck bolt was unlocked, we were on the road speeding when the back truck door cover bolt opened, I couldn’t understand how I was so clever and fast to grab the backcover and saved my guy from an incoming calamity, a car was behind us, had it been dude fell from the coverdoor not only will he sustain injuries but the car behind would have finished him off.
He was my senior sha but he couldn’t thank me enough, for a moment I felt like a hero

I begged a cab man to help rescue a Policeman that was shot in the midnight at that Obiwali roundabout at Mgbuoba during my school days ,thankfully we met several police vans before we got to Rumuokwuta and the guy was still breathing, they just rushed him into one of the vans and that one revised.

I wrote about it in my diary last or two years ago .

Till today,I pray and wonder if the man survived it because the guy was praying seriously for God to spare his life for the sake of his little children at home ,I really hope he survived, but I CAN NEVER try that in my life again.

To God all the praises. I have done that twice at the Alimosho general hospital, Igando Lagos twice.

I will not want to go into details but the first one was a friend's wife, she was saved but we lost the baby " stillbirth "

Second One is a sure bros mother inlaw at the emergency hall of the same hospital, thank God mama is still alive till today.

The kind spirit that enter my head that day still dey do me somehow.

In a critical situation, you have to act mad to save the situation.

While i was staying with my street brother during my nysc days, i returned from work only to find their only son/child inside a fire and smoke covered room. They had left him on the bed sleeping while both the father and the mother were catching fresh air outside the house's veranda.
The boy, 3 or thereabout, woke up, saw no one and tried to struggled out of the bed but fell on the candle placed somewhere by the careless mom.

i rushed in, threw the boy out and shouted for help. The room, mattress, couches and cloths were razed down to almost nothing.
someone has saved me impulsively on reflexes from a snake bite before also...
