Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op):
Before you feel or get offended, this is what scripture says

Joel.2.32 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of YHVH Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.

This is the promise, the promise isn't to whoever calls on the name of Joshua or Jesus, and the Hebrew word translated as save is "malat" which to slip away, to escape, to perserve. And those whom will escape and be delivered are those YHVH calls.

This basis that calling upon the name of Jesus will save you is from misunderstanding Romans 10:3 and Acts 2:21, where Paul and Peter quote from Joel 2. Now I have treated this aspect in "is Jesus, Jehovah?"

You can read the thread the understand my indepth explanation that Jesus is not Jehovah, and the teaching in Acts 2 and Romans 10. But for this thread we will focus on Joel 2 and several other verses that speak on the authority of Christ.

Now you are never thought by the apostles that calling on the name of Jesus will save you, what you read in the new testament is to confess that Jesus is Christ and Lord.

This error has made many believe that just by calling upon Jesus they automatically will get saved. Irrespective of their sins and wickedness, it becomes an amazing quick get out of hell free card. But it's not, because it never was, you have to repent and obey God to be saved.

While you are correct that merely calling on the name of Jesus Christ of Israel does not save anyone, you equally missed an important fact in that verse you quoted. It states there that the name of YHWH as a means of salvation would apply at the time only to those in Mount Zion — the city of David —and in Jerusalem. undecided

There are a number of examples from scripture to show that to call upon the name of YHVH is prayer and associated with those who worship YHVH

Think about Elijah's story for instance, where he said in verse 21, if YHVH is God or if baal is, and what he suggested was
1Kgs.18.24 Then call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by setting fire to the wood is the true God!" And all the people agreed. (26) So they took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. "O Baal, answer us!" they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.

You may say, well you call upon Jesus and he answers, that Jesus is the one you made and accepted as your god. But what does God's word say

Before we go into Joel 2, let's read
Acts.4.12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

First we see that there isn't salvation in none other,
And that indeed no name existing differently under heaven given within humans which is necessary for our salvation.

So among the names of humans, there is only one name that reveals who saves and reveals salvation. And that name is Jesus which means Jehovah saves.
The issue here isn't about calling upon the name but about confessing the name of Jesus.
What is the difference?
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op):
When Peter in Acts 3 told a crippled man to walk in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, what he had was the name of Jesus, the authority of Jesus to heal, and that's what he gave, he wasn't praying and when people were amazed he said, do you think it's our own power or holiness that made this man walk.
Our God has glorified his servant Jesus
, who is holy and righteous, who brought us life, whom you killed but God raised him out from death and we witnessed this.

Acts.3.16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.

Peter mentions three things
By faith in the name of Jesus
The name of Jesus
And faith that comes through Jesus

Not by prayer or praying to Jesus but Peter does tell us why the name as you continue to read the chapter.

Let's not go into that Peter mentions that Moses testifies like in the book of Hebrews, that Jesus is the prophet and that we must turn to God in repentance and wait for the second coming of the Messiah.

Peter was confessing that Jesus is the Messiah sent by God to bring us back to Him and the prove is that by the name of the Messiah, the authority of the Messiah the cripple was healed. But do realize who answered, it was God. God glorified Jesus, so you may even say they prayed to God in the name of Jesus, because God answered and glorified the name of Jesus. God glorifies his son Jesus, at and the mention of his name, Jesus Christ, prayers to Him, YHVH, are answered.

This event continues in Acts 4, and still Peter doesn't proclaim Jesus is Jehovah or God, but God's servant whom God has glorified by giving him authority which we believers have received and use.

Acts.4.7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?"

It was to this question, Peter answered by the Holy Spirit, he was healed in the name and power of Jesus Christ, whom you crucified but God raised from the dead, that name testifies of God's salvation from death.

This is where I am going to; then they were beaten, and what happens next they prayed. They called upon the name of the LORD

Acts.4.24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them....

30 - Send your healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus."
31 - After this prayer, the building where they were meeting shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they preached God's message with boldness.

***** they prayed to God
***** The resurrected Jesus is God's servant.
***** God does the healings and miracles through the name of Jesus

Praying to Jesus won't save you, we pray through Jesus to the Father. Jesus never taught us to Pray to him, but to our Father God. Our Father who is in heaven, holy is your name.

When we say "in Jesus name" it means we are calling upon God and coming to Him through Jesus,
the way He established we should approach Him by. Before the resurrection the disciples called upon the Father without the name of Jesus but after his resurrection they had to, because that was the only way to approach the Father.

You can't call upon Jehovah without the name of Jesus, and to confess the name of Jesus is to believe that God sent him and glorified him. And so we honor God by acknowledging the honor bestowed upon the son.
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op): 9:22pm On Jan 17, 2025
You may say, well Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1 that we call upon the name of Jesus, my immediate response is, does Paul say why? Did he say doing so will save you?

Infact, epikalesētai and epikaloumenois are two different terms with the same root epikaleó, the one used in Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13 is epikalesētai call upon, while 1 Corinthians 1:2 uses epikaloumenois, which I believe means "proclaiming" Jesus.

Now read it like this: 1Cor.1.2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who proclaim the name of our Lord Jesus Christ--their Lord and ours:

And here to proclaim Jesus is to honor him not to pray to him, but if you won't accept well you will continue praying to him

Let's go through some of Jesus's teachings

John.14.13-14 - You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it!

Now do you read, "you can ask ME" you don't. What Jesus will do isn't because you ask him but because the Father commands him, and thank God there are more verses records what Jesus says and whom you are asking.
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op): 9:31pm On Jan 17, 2025
John.14.16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- without even God's permission Jesus cannot send the Holy Spirit, it's only with God's permission Jesus does anything and that's what makes Jesus perfect.

And if anything, here in John and also in Luke.11.13 If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him."

we see what we should ask for and receive, and that is the Holy Spirit.

More verses of Jesus teaching to show who he tells us to pray to

John.15.16 - You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.

We use the name of Jesus to ask the Father, and I want us to remember we didn't choose Jesus, we didn't even choose ourselves. God choose Jesus and brought us to him, and we are chosen. Many are called, few are chosen, Matthew 22:14.

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. Romans 8:29-30

A chosen generation,... called out of darkness 1 Peter 2:9

I want you to note that Jesus called for repentance, for men to turn to God and then God draws people to Jesus, so when Jesus calls, it is those whom God draws that go to him and respond to him. We will still see that in other verses. Okay one more place that shows we pray to the Father and not call upon Jesus.

At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. The truth is, you can go directly to the Father and ask him, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. Then you will ask in my name. I'm not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf,.. John 16:23,24,26.

Jesus is clearly saying here, don't ask me, ask God. Don't call upon me, call upon God, pray to God.

Praying in the name of Jesus doesn't mean asking Jesus to pray for you. Jesus intercedes for us as our high priest not because we ask him to. And by the authority of Jesus we approach God boldly, Hebrews 4.

Jesus is not the destination, Jesus is the way, that's why those believe in Jesus are called followers of the way, our goal is to return to God, to go to God, there was no way before till Jesus came, there was a veil and the only way is Jesus because he is the only one sent by God for this purpose. He reveals God to us and In John 16:25, Jesus said then I will reveal the Father clearly.
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op): 10:27pm On Jan 17, 2025
Someone tells you call upon the name of the Lord and you will be saved, and you call upon the name of Jesus and go around believing you are saved, whereas you are not.

You believe you are saved so you don't have to obey the commandments, you don't have to give, to love, to pray, to wait. You believe it soo much, you even did miracles and wonders in his name. At this point I remember what Jesus said in Matthew 7, calling me Lord lord will not save you if you do not do the will of God.

If you like call Jesus Yahweh, call him Jehovah, do all the miracles in his name, you will not be saved does it mean serving God is pointless, first off you were not serving God, God never forgets our labor of love.

When we say call upon the name of YHVH, we mean pray to Him and He saves us by sending us salvation, Jesus.

Jesus can only save and keep those whom our Father God has chosen to be saved. Jesus has received the authority to protect and cover them but not predestine those to be saved, and also to judge the rest with God's judgement. John 17:9-12

That's why we are children of God, not children of Jesus, we receive God's gift of eternal life through the death of Jesus whom God gave life to, and we receive it as an inheritance, becoming co-heirs with Christ Jesus our Lord, like a bride who receives an inheritance at the death of our husband. (I wish I could quote every single verse that agrees with what I am writing)

When we speak about the name of Jesus we speak about the authority given to Jesus

When Jesus resurrected he received complete authority over death, for our resurrection into eternal life. To understand the difference, is Lazarus who was resurrected could still die, but whoever is resurrected on that day, will not die.

You need to understand the authority Jesus had on earth before he resurrected, and God who gave it to him, because it is that authority given to Jesus while on earth that Jesus gave to we believers who live on this earth. even though Jesus had that authority he prayed consistently to God.

Let's not talk about that you always want we ministers of God to pray for you, because what is at stake is the salvation of your souls while you continue in an error that leads to destruction and not salvation. So on authority from Christ, the name of Jesus.

We saw earlier Peter who exercised that authority of Jesus's name and the power of God's word. And we need to realize that receiving authority from God doesn't make us equal to God. Even Jesus who received all authority in heaven and earth that will pass away doesn't have God's authority which is above heaven and earth, and can destroy heaven and earth with His coming. Jesus doesn't even consider himself equal to God, but some with smaller power and authority are dreaming themselves to be a god.

Jesus that is at the right side of God is called God's servant, God's son, our high priest and not God but our brother. the fact that our Lord Jesus calls himself our brother should humble us
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op): 10:33pm On Jan 17, 2025
Okay I will call upon the name of Yahweh or Jehovah so that I can guarantee my salvation, you better calm down till I teach Joel 2, even from that verse 32 alone, you see that there's something occuring that makes that condition and promise available.

Have you not read, Prov.1.28-29 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD,

No matter how many times you shout or call the name Jesus you will not get saved, salvation is through the name of Jesus by being baptized in his name, believing in Jesus and obeying his words, believing that the son of God who died and rose is our Lord and Christ and obeying the commandments to love God and love others as yourself.

And what is the will and commands of God

1John.3.21 - Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence.
22 - And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him.
23 - And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.
24 - Those who obey God's commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

We should know that to believe in the name of Jesus doesn't mean to call upon the name of Jesus. To call upon a name is to pray to that name or person. A name signifies authority, authority has been given to Jesus but does that mean God doesn't have authority anymore, no it doesn't. To believe in a name, is to believe in that person's authority.

Even the dumb get saved, even the dumb pray

If you sincerely believe that mere confession would save you, then who ever taught you that is helping the devil destroy you. Believe doesn't lead only to confession either of your sins or that Jesus is Lord but true believe leads to obedience to God, and to the one true God revealed by his son Jesus Christ.

The name of Christ and the authority of Christ

John the Baptist speaking about Jesus in John.3. He tells what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! Those who believe him discover that God is true. For he is sent by God. He speaks God's words, for God's Spirit is upon him without measure or limit.
The Father loves his Son, and he has given him authority over everything. And all who believe in God's Son have eternal life. Those who don't obey the Son will never experience eternal life, but the wrath of God remains upon them."

Everything in Jesus that comes from the Father is the authority to give life to those who believe and obey God
Re: Calling Upon The Name Of Jesus Will Not Save You?! by gohf(op): 1:34pm On Jan 31, 2025
In John.6

Jesus told them, "This is what God wants you to do: Believe in the one he has sent."...
However, only those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do what I want. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them to eternal life at the last day. For it is my Father's will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life--that I should raise them at the last day."
For people can't come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them from the dead.

I live by the power of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, those who partake of me will live because of me.

Then Jesus said, "That is what I meant when I said that people can't come to me unless the Father brings them to me."

There are TWO names that's connected to mankind's salvation {John 17:3} that is why those who will rule with Christ Jesus in heaven had these TWO names written on their foreheads {Revelations 14:1} the name we need to call for our salvation is JEHOVAH not JESUS.
But why Paul always emphasize on the name of Jesus?
Majority of first century Christians were Judaists who already knew the name of God Almighty (Jehovah) and they were all aware of the promises God made regarding the Christ but they don't know that the Christ has come in the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
Before arguing check the prophecy of Joel 2:32 in your KJV it's written like this:

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
The title LORD here is not title in the original manuscripts rather it's the divine name YHWH that's why the NWT rendered the same verse this way:

And everyone who calls on the name of JEHOVAH will be saved; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, just as JEHOVAH has said, The survivors whom JEHOVAH calls.”

In the Old Testament prophecies about the Christ was never written rendering the title in capital letter:

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Psalms 110:1 KJV

There are TWO persons David referred here the capital in full here is JEHOVAH while the lower case is for Jesus.

You can confirm this in Peter's words at Pentecost {Act 2:34} so the name we are to call for our salvation is JEHOVAH but then Jehovah will only grant our request if we use the name of AMEN to conclude our prayer and who is the AMEN?

Check the Bible book of Revelation 3:14 and compare to Revelations 1:5 Jesus is the AMEN! John 14:6

May you have peace!

"But you are my witnesses, O Israel!" says the LORD. "And you are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God; there never has been and never will be. I am the LORD, and without me there is no savior. First I predicted your deliverance; I declared what I would do, and then I did it--I saved you. No foreign god has ever done this before. You are witnesses that I am the only God," says the LORD(YHVH). "From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do. No one can reverse my actions." Isaiah 43:10-13
