There was one popular place in Bida, where we stopped for Tuwo whenever travelling to Abuja back in the days.

I miss Tuwo.

Tuwon Shinkafa (Rice swallow) is made from 100% Rice. It is a major swallow in Northern Nigeria. So many eat this as their major swallow at home, on a daily basis. It is also served in special occasions like weddings, naming Ceremony, Birthday parties, special occasions etc.

Tuwo Shinkafa go well with either Egusi soup, bitter leaf, Groundnut Soup, vegetables etc. It doesn't go well with draw Soup (my opinion).

Let me try.

The maize must be soaked and washed in water, broken and peeled then grounded to a smooth mixture.

The cassava also peeled and dried too, grounded to a fine mixture and later mixed with the grounded maize to get a smooth mixture.

The combination of both makes what we call tuwo masara up here but saying it look exactly like semo isn't the truth, maybe it could rival semo or even replace it due to cost but the looks differs a lot.

Lastly, preparation matters as some folks will have to sieve it first to make it more smoother.

What do you mean by "draw soup?"

In my travels, I've tasted tuwon shinkafa and it goes well with ALL kinds of Nigerian soups.

Tuwon masara doesn't go well with my taste buds though.

The person that prepare it must be a novice of the meal or is not good in cooking it

The one I know very well here is maize popularly eaten by Cotonou people. But because it scatters anyhow unless you make it extra soft and eat as fast as possible with your spoon, we device a mean of making it last by adding casava flakes (lafu).

Rice and casava flakes is what we call poundo yam.

Amala and Fufu are roten food. Not healthy for normal people. The process of making Fufu and Amala is not healthy. The most healthy swallow is Tuwo Shinkafa, Tuwo Masara and Pounded yam

What is special about it?

Yeah while I was in Abuja I had it a few times. Honestly it's just like agidi to me oo but I just love the thrill of eating something other than what I'm normally used to. I guess Ur back from the holidays now
