Senator Ned Nwoko’s Decamp to APC and the Looming 2027 Battle in Delta North In a political twist that has sent shockwaves across Delta State and beyond, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing the Delta North senatorial district, has officially decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move marks a significant shift in Delta State’s political landscape, as the ruling APC now boasts control of all three senatorial seats in the state—a strategic win that could reshape the balance of power in future elections. Nwoko, who was elected to the Senate under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, cited irreconcilable differences with the PDP leadership in the state as one of the key reasons for his defection. His relationship with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former governor Ifeanyi Okowa has reportedly been strained, stemming from allegations of marginalization. Nwoko’s decision to cross over to the APC can be seen as a calculated move, one that positions him within the ruling party and offers a new platform for his political aspirations. This defection is not without its ramifications. Delta North, a PDP stronghold for decades, is now under significant scrutiny as APC gains a foothold. With both Delta Central and Delta South already in APC’s fold, the political dominance of the PDP in the state is facing an unprecedented challenge. However, the road to 2027 is fraught with challenges for Senator Nwoko. His decision to join the APC is not only a declaration of independence from the PDP but also an invitation for battle. One formidable opponent looms on the horizon: Hillary Obi Ibegbulem, a name synonymous with grassroots mobilization and political strategy in Delta North. Ibegbulem is widely expected to mount a strong challenge for the senatorial seat in the next election, adding another layer of intrigue to an already charged political atmosphere. Moreover, whispers abound that former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, still nursing his wounds from the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 vice presidential election, might also enter the fray for the Delta North seat. If this comes to pass, the battle for Delta North will transcend party lines, evolving into a contest of political legacy and regional pride. For Nwoko, the stakes are high. While his move to the APC grants him access to the ruling party’s machinery, he must now navigate the complexities of a new political environment, build alliances, and deliver on his promises to his constituents. At the same time, his opponents, particularly Ibegbulem, are likely to capitalize on any perceived missteps or disconnect with the grassroots. As 2027 draws closer, Election Watch NG will continue to monitor this developing story. Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection to the APC may be a strategic masterstroke, but it also signals the beginning of a fierce contest for political supremacy in Delta North. For the people of Delta State, this is not just about party lines—it’s about leadership, representation, and the future of the region. Let the games begin.

Godwin4444:Does the fate of Igbos depend on a retired politician? Pius Anyim former senate president under PDP is now APC.If GEJ contest election today I doubt he will get 50% support from SE because the political climate have changed. Nobody will care what party GEJ joins tomorrow. Since he left office so many water don pass under the bridge. PDP has lost states and states and senate seats in SE. |
