Ikwerre is an ethnic group and Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, Nigeria. The Ikwerre people live in the upland areas of Rivers State. Ethnic group The Ikwerre people are also known as Iwhuruọnha. Traditional history divides the Ikwerre into seven groups called "Ikwerre Essa". The Ikwerre people's culture has been influenced by their contacts with their neighbors. Local Government Area The Ikwerre LGA is located in the Rivers East Senatorial district. The headquarters of the Ikwerre LGA is in the town of Isiokpo. The Ikwerre LGA borders Imo State to the north, Emohua to the west, Etche to the east, and Obio-Akpor to the south. The main occupations of the people are farming and trading. The Ikwerre people speak the Ikwerre language, also known as Iwhuruohna. The Ikwerre people live in certain areas of Rivers State in Nigeria. Explanation The Ikwerre people claim to have migrated from the Benin Empire. The Ikwerre people's history is largely shrouded in myth and mystery, similar to other pre-literate African societies. Some defense are funny and laughable? So since when did AI become a historian? Since when did it work on a research to discover the origin of the Ikweres? Please tell us Ikwere is not Igbo and we accept it because they have their distinct language, culture and tradition from that of the Igbos. Though some may be similar, it doesn't mean they are one. Leave that AI thing out of the argument. |

After studying the Ikwerre for some time, it's clear that a significant portion of them are undeniably Igbo, sharing cultural and linguistic traits. I have seen videos of people in Haiti, Gabon, Sierra Leone tracing their origin to igbo land and not even Benin. A prominent black pastor in US and one of the most prominent pastors in the world doesn't play with his igbo origin and heritage. He talks about it at any opportunity. fuckJones: You really sound dumbbb, so Chukwuokike Abiama is strange to you? Of course, you guys are from Benin but for some reasons we don't know, you speak a sub igbo language. We are okay with that, quit telling us which igbo is yours, cause all belongs to us. I'll suggest gradually speaking the Bini language to your kids, maybe in a century or less, there won't actually be anymore igbo in your place. |

Hahahaha. You're recommending the therapy used in ceding the 4 villages of Upper Itu Mbonuso, in INI Local Govt Area of Akwa Ibom State to now Bende Local Govt Area of Abia State. Now you see somebody answer CHIMA Asukwo, Chinaza Effiong, Emeka Okon, etc. Even their Eze answers Eze CHIMA Ndom. They use native Itu Mbonuso language during communal meetings and other social gatherings but use Igbo language when engaging with outsiders or when they cross into other Igbo territory. Folklores and cultural plays are done in native Itu Mbonuso language but on occasions that involve government officials, they use Igbo language. Their day to day activities and interactions are done with native Itu Mbonuso language except when strangers are involved, they use Igbo language. Just a confused lot. |
