Portugal has revealed plans to increase imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Nigeria and the United States as part of efforts to secure energy independence and reduce reliance on Russian gas. This decision follows sanctions on Russian oil and gas imported via pipelines after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.https://punchng.com/portugal-plans-nigeria-us-gas-imports-to-end-russian-supply/

A lot of people are all too bothered about food inflation than the prospects of government policies in other critical sectors, one of which is a deliberate efforts towards gas revolution which obviously is attracting the attention of the global community. Hopefully, Nigeria could be the next big global gas market for supply to Europe as more European countries turn the attention to African gas. On Jan 1st, Ukraine turned off the taps to Russian gas within its territory, thereby impacting s huge blow to Russia's supplies. Russia is estimated to lose an average of $5billion annually, Ukraine too is not that exempted as it loses an annual transit fee of $1billion. Interestingly, Russia has only one stream left, which is the TurkStream, the other one was also paralyzed in the ongoing war, the NordStream came under attacks and has been shut down ever since. Nigeria could take advantage of this unprecedented challenges by accelerating the Nigerian- Morroco gas pipeline deal. This would reposition Nigeria as an emerging market. But then again, there's a small matter of Donald Trump, he might strike a deal with Ukraine to turn back on the taps, you just never know . |
