Ajaero Faults Power Minister Over Electricity Bands, Migration Plans by chisomkachy(op): 11:13pm On Jan 23, 2025
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has faulted the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, over electricity bands and migration plans.

The labour leader questioned why some people should be in Band A and others in lower bands, saying that the practice is discriminatory.

He slammed the service-based tariff which put electricity users in different bands, according to service delivered by distribution companies, calling it the highest form of ‘419’.

During a budget defence session at the National Assembly this week, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, claimed that 90 per cent of electricity users in Band A have confirmed that they are getting the benefit of being in Band A. He also said that more customers would be migrated to Band A to enjoy electricity for longer hours.

However, Ajaero, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, questioned the idea of migrating customers from one band to another.

“Now the ministry is talking about migrating from Band B To Band A, that is the highest level of 419 one can think of,” Ajaero said on the programme. The local parlance 419 has become notorious for the description of fraudulent activities.

“Who is in Band A and who is in Band B? Is it based on geographical area that you have Band A or Band B or is it based on the dictates of the provider?

“In countries of the world that are targeting 24 hours power supply, why would somebody be talking about Band A or Band B? How would it happen? So, that idea is concocted to make money unnecessarily and say people are migrated.”

“What are the conditions to be on Band A? What are the conditions to be on Band B? Why would you discriminate? Why would you give me Band B and give somebody Band A? So, these are the issues.”

Band A are those who enjoy electricity supply for 20 hours per day, Band B a minimum of 16 hours, Band C get a minimum of 12-hour power supply, Band D a minimum of 8 hours, and Band E a minimum of four hours.

Ajaero also faulted the Federal Government for making provisions for power distribution companies which are supposedly private companies in the 2025 budget.

He said that the money that the government wants to use to improve the power sector should be used for something else while the private-owned power companies should use the money they generate to run their companies.

You give light to Band A, and throw others into unbearable darkness. This is pure wickedness.

Electricity was not this bad under Buhari, it's a shame that Nigerians are suffering this much under Tinubu.

This Ajaero is really trying. I have been to many countries and I haven't heard that any part is subjugated for such descrimination. A teacher, local government worker and low paid civil servants will automatically have to be in band E shey.. country don die. Please share the remaining let's start from the beginning.

In as much as I'm not speaking for Tinubu's administration, it's the easiest thing to walk up to the DISCOs to know how conditions for the migration. Obviously, areas that have up-to 80% prepaid meters would be migrated to band A. Areas with 60% prepaid meter would likely me migrated to band B.

Adelabu is the dumbest of dem all....

People should be allowed to chose their band if we must use.

People should not be forced to be on a particular band.

The evil circus of this government on energy and power is just too opaque to be seen with electronic microscope at maximum magnification.
The secret is too deep and dark.

Tinubu's systematic formats of leadership is as the same of Agboros in the street of Lagos . Just enforce the harsh policies on the citizens if they're dying let them die as far as we the government are making money from them . If you've lived in Lagos you will be familiar with what I'm saying

Bandit government

Electricity usage should be like - I recharge my meter. The more light is available, the more I use it (provided I'm around at home), the more my unit is consumed just like browsing data. But why will you then as a fraudulent government get people banded on what they didn't bargain for?

You put me on Band A and you expect me to pay higher, that's a very big NO NO situation. Telcos companies should just band politicians and rich people.

This government is very wicked, imagine I traveled on 31st December as band B customer with power purchase of 13.4 units @1,000, and returning back by January as band A with power purchase of 4 units @1,000. How do they want us to survive this? The worst part is that the power supply is even worst now than when we are in their band B.

I agree with Ajero on this, this is purely 419 from the government.

That isn't even the basis. The band is based on how many hours of electricity you receive

Imagine a struggling tailor being forced to use band A.

She makes ₦70k in a month but ends up using ₦45k to pay for electricity.

How's she expected to thrive?
Re: Ajaero Faults Power Minister Over Electricity Bands, Migration Plans by ejieddy: 8:25am On Jan 24, 2025
I have been saying this. This is fraud and discrimination. We need to sue this government amd the power ministry for this nonsense. Because of your inefficiency and inability to generate electricity, you create class or bands so that people will feel it's their fault. What's the meaning of band A or band B? Give us light and give a flat rate for power. Nonsense
Re: Ajaero Faults Power Minister Over Electricity Bands, Migration Plans by ITbomb(m): 8:49am On Jan 24, 2025
Simple reason is that power is not enough to keep everyone on 24 hours.
So productive areas with high turnover are prioritize.

As soon as electric power is sufficient, the issue of grading will die a natural death
Re: Ajaero Faults Power Minister Over Electricity Bands, Migration Plans by themanderon: 8:53am On Jan 24, 2025
This band rubbish is not obtainable in any other part of the world only in this shithole where unfortunately we have demented people in power.
Go to Ghana and all these smaller African nations you see them having power for 24 hrs. Nothing like segregation. Only in this country is the government telling you they have removed subsidy and increased prices yet they are still making provisions for subsidy again despite increased prices. They must think Nigerians Are as foolish as their followers.
