Did you research The plane that have been making trips all last year till this year.... Boeing no doubt have issue but their are certain version of it with technical faults... Flying over the ocean means cruising altitude; the safest part of air travel.

You dont turn back because of turbulence, turbulence is normal. It is either malfunctioning flight sensors or loss of flight controls. again based on the comment "we lost our tools" it suggest they lost flight controls (hence the turbulence like conditions) and it later came back (which is why they were able to return to Lagos) suggesting failure of the electronic flight control system somewhere. it is a fly by wire airplane with no manual controls though it is supposed to have redundancy.

Furthermore, to the best of my knowledge, though possible, turbulence is not common on that flight route as you can see below, they only got as a far as Ivory coast.

You are not talking to na aviation novice oo..I feed off this field please , most planes use digital cluster now , you won't see any that use analogue especially on international flight..of a turbulence happens and passengers get injured the have to make an emergency landing ASAP ....there is no scenario where the will lose flight controls and the passengers will get injured .. the only thing that will make you lose flight controls on 787 is if you lose engine power or hydraulics and even at that you will extend your emergency turbine and continue flight controls and avionics

my friend you are talking absolute nonsense.

1) i already said they wont turn back because of turbulence uless the plane was damaged or there were injuries....cant you read?
2) you are wrong regarding the bold statement, there are numerous examples. Infact if you lose flight controls and you do not regain it, you will be lucky to say you were injured.
3) you are also wrong regardiing the 2nd bold part and if you read what you wrote you are contradicting yourself. Loss of Engine power does not mean losss of flight controls because you have the emergency turbines and you can glide.
4: depending on altitude, the worst thing that can happen in a flight is not loss of engines, but loss of flight controls. Loss of flight controls means simply that, you have no control of the plane.

there are numerous examples where planes have behaved erratically die to malfunctioning sensors etc, which is why I said this is a sysmptom of either malfunctioning sensors or temporary losss of flight controls.

We are both speculating but your suggestion of turbulence is total garbage based on the fact that the pilots temporarily lost their tools...what other tools are they refering to? common sense will tell you that there wasa glitch somewhere and the plane was temporarily uncontrollable and it was restored hence their ability to fly back to Nigeria.

Baba, for the first five years I was flying over the Atlantic, I go always sit and balance for the airport any airport I Dey, take enough Vodka, chop well, set my alarm. By the time plane takes off, I don sleep, when I go wake up, na 15minutes to landing. But age don take am now. Anything wey wan come, we go follow see am. I remember one time I was coming back from Bogotá and there was turbulence, everyone was screaming and praying and the guy beside me was like what are you quite? I was like please what do you want me to do? The guy just quietly sat and joined me looking until we gained balance.

And did it crash? advanced and so what, computer no dey fail? Every advanced system is a computer program. A computer program is only as good as the possible scenarios you have envisaged. There are always scenarios that weren’t envisaged that is why you have software upgrades. Because a plane did not crash does not mean it hasn’t had incidents during flight!

Check the aviation incident database there have been over 312 incidents involving the 787. This will make it 313 and it is not the first time a 787 has suddenly plunged injuring people…..assuming people were injured.

Can you imagine she believed that medical personnel not coming inside the plane on time was a bigger emergency than their plane almost crashing, because na oyinbo plane. Some of our people are sick in the head.

That's why when I see people snapping inside airplanes, I just laugh and go my way....
