My doctor friend arrived a few days ago. He’s staying with us at the moment for the next couple of weeks until he sorts himself out. I just showed him this thread, and he’s just laughing. Any doctor still remaining in Nigeria has serious loyalty. 6,000 doctors for over 250 million people, yet Nigerians are more concerned about what Trump is doing in America 😂😂😂
"Any doctor still remaining in Nigeria has serious loyalty "... This statement sounds condescending.

Your friend had serious loyalty until he left few days ago.

Once Nigerians leave the shores of the country, they behave as if they never lived in Nigeria.

Many doctors still in Nigeria are there because of the following: Process of writing foreign exams or lack of funds for japa which is capital intensive.
Not because they have serious loyalty.

Na real keg of gun powder dis country dey ontop so. For a population of over 240 million people, you have less than 6000 medical consultants. 🤔
Twitter(X) people say Agbo cures all ailments.
Just few days ago,Nigerians were rejoicing on this app that other health professionals will be called "Doctor".

Nothing spoil!

Your suggestion wouldnt have been a bad idea. But if and when the government does that and the candidates wants to travel out on completion, you and I will be here discussing elementary economics on topics like mobility of labour and of course barely literate ones here too will be talking about the violation of the right of the citizens to freedom of wareva.

The ones who have been trained at almost next to nothing find it convenient to bad mouth the country immediately their air borne plane crosses over Benin Republic enroute Europe.
You guys are grossly ignorant. Sweden school is free up to college. And college students are paid when schooling, many of them are now in America working. Swedish govt knows, but cared not.

In my earlier post, when Nelfund was passed into law, I suggested students that gain admission into medical schools, from Doctors to Nurses ought to be given scholarships, people said it discriminates other courses.

If we keep losing our doctors to other countries, we might as well incentivise students, so we produce even more. Yes, improve paying and working conditions but churn out even more doctors.

I would freely give medical students N2,000,000/annum towards their education. Upon becoming a doctor, they don’t have to pay it back, they just have to practice in Nigeria for 5 years.

Also, private universities like Covenant University should be encouraged to have medical colleges for doctors and nurses.

Sweden also pays a heavy duty tax to ensure that there is free education.

The truth is, there is nothing like free education. Either you are paying in taxes, high fees, or high loans. IN sweden, personal income tax rate is 52% per annum. Half one's income for the year. IN other words, if Tinubu were to implement that kind of tax rate in Nigeria, you would remove him tomorrow.

The oil money we earn in Nigeria would have been enough if we were 10 million people. Not the 200 million people we are.

And even then many states still pay scholarship and sponsorships for medical students.

I remember how a clown on nairaland earlier today was hailing this government for promoting carpentry and tailoring over industrialisation. he even suggested less people study medicine so that we can generate more forex. Dude felt doctors were unimportant.
Well, vocational skills like carpentry are good for industrialization, in fairness.

Sadly in NIgeria, thanks to our resource dependent economy, we have a tendency to focus on white collar jobs because the vocational jobs are not enough and the ones that are there don't pay as well as white collar jobs.

SO, kids who would benefit from vocational education go to get paper certificates so that they can get office job...

What the government should be doing is actually encouraging polices for industrial growth...but at the end, it means a period of hardship before things get better...so...

you have wisdom but we all know the problem.... It's simply renumeration. A medical officer in Sierra Leone earns 1.5 million naira while in Nigeria a medical officer earns 300, 000 naira before tax. If government increases the salary of Healthcare workers across all boards as it is internationally, Doctors will not only stay but even private practice will reduce but no, the government goes about making weird polices that continue to worsen the neglect in the Healthcare system.

I marvel at how some Nigerians still can not read the handwriting on the wall that Nigeria is heading for a catastrophic event if the greedy politicians continue weaponizing poverty with their stealing starting with the kleptomaniac drug baron treasury looting Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ali Baba and his gang of 40 thieves.

Problems that will start to reduce with a salary of 500k minimum.
If you pay interns 500k and others higher, i estimate 10 to 20% will stay, or strongly consider staying.
If you give other incentives like improved conditions of work and pathway to housing, that number will go up to 30 or 40%.

Uneducated senators earn how much per meeting again?
As long as a fresh consultant is earning less than 1m, we're just joking. We're not ready

I have said this before and I will say it again: there are some Biological Science and Life Science graduates out there who graduated with good grades, and wish to enroll into medical programs but do not have the wherewithal to achieve it. The federal government should consider sponsoring these ones to medical schools and condition them that they must practice here in the country upon their graduation.

If this report is actually true, then the government should come up with the policy without further delay; else, we have an impending health crises
Seems you are a kid who does not know the consequences of what you are saying or if it’s even possible anywhere in the world to train a person through medical school and then force him to stay put without changing the conditions of work. Even if it were possible for this dumb solution the health sector will still suffer as the working conditions are ridiculous and the pay is thrash. These Drs will either abandon Medicine totally for other jobs or not even bother to enter at all. The few who will will still not solve the crisis.

Lol

Do you know, for instance, that to write just one medical postgraduate exam (West Africa College of Physicians), you're spending over one million Naira?

Then add cost of textbooks, compulsory and optional courses that are close to 100k each.

If you mistakenly fail the exam, you have to pay afresh and rewrite.

Should I give my family sand and stones to eat?

Again, I laugh because you're obviously not aware that medical school quotas all over the country was increased recently by as high as 60%. Go and verify. Every medical school in Nigeria have been approved to train more students

If you also listen to NARD, you will realize resident doctors have been pushing for better working conditions from time immemorial
Don't mind the stupid idiot

They don't make much from natural resources like Nigeria, hence the tax. Arab countries like Dubai, Qatar, Saudi, with oil like Nigeria individuals don't pay tax, go their country see wonders citizens dey benefit from their govt. wetin una useless Nigeria use their own oil money do for citizens? Person go use him money pay millions for school, yet una still dey yarn dust like say you did shit for him
Besides you aren't a business owner in Nigeria, if you are, you understand govt tax you like crazy as well
Again, you guys aren't logical. Reads information verbatim.

If the life science graduate can meet the standard, they should never be allowed to be doctors. To standard to become a doctor must never be compromise.

PANDORA PAPERS: Buhari visited Tinubu in corruption-tainted London villa acquired by Oyetola

Governor Oyetola, a relative of Mr Tinubu, may have sabotaged his own country by buying the exotic property as Nigeria made to seize it.
ByNicholas IbekweandTaiwo-Hassan Adebayo October 7, 2021 in Headline Stories, Pandora Papers Reading Time: 8 mins read

It was a meeting of two of Nigeria’s most influential politicians in London – President Muhammadu Buhari was visiting political kingmaker and senior member of his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

In July, the presidency announced that Mr Buhari was heading to London for an education summit. The office also added that the president would also see his doctors for “medical check-up”.

Coincidentally, Mr Tinubu, who had travelled to London earlier, was also receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in the British capital. So, a perfect setting for both men to meet was created.
