franchasofficia:I did not know that a constitution tells coup plotters who should take power if they succeed. In fact, I thought coups were unconstitutional, and succession was by might, which make me ask. Sarcasm? How can Akpabio or Edun or Wike be deciding who takes over unless its their coup? |

Military men obey orders The leadership was Igbo Several soldiers were killed for resisting In the military you obey before complaining In the military you obey the last command It was an Igbo coup, simple. See the list of officers you provided, all Igbo. Let’s not pretend to rewrite history but how to bring Igbo people into equitable beneficiaries of Nigeria too instead of all this |

budaatum:The coup failed. Ironsi, Ojukwu and others foiled the coup. If it were to be a successful coup detat, the coup leader Nzeogwu would have taken over government and there won't be need discussing next in line to mount the saddle of power, but because the coup failed and there was a leadership void, the Senate President had to step in amid tension and fear of his own life, and after summoning Council of Ministers who were also quiet and scared of their own lives, they silently and unanimously agreed to transfer power to military leadership headed by Gen. Ironsi to restore law and order and return power back to civilian government which was how it was done back then |

Yankee101:It was never an Igbo coup, there were more Igbos in top echelon of Nigeria's military after independence, so it was natural to have more Igbo officers participate than any other tribe. When Nzeogwu and his men arrived Ahmadu Bello's official residence in Kaduna, Nzeogwu was not armed cos he was their instructor and commander but the rest of the soldiers drawn from different Nigerian tribes had guns loaded with bullets. When Nzeogwu announced their mission to arrest Ahmadu Bello dead or alive, the Northern soldiers among his team ought to have resisted if they weren't in support of his mission. Obey the last order is not when it involves coup. You don't just drag someone to join a coup, all coupists always have a gentleman agreement because they know it's a deadly mission. Nobody gets forced to join coup, if it's against your will, you resist and can even shoot because you are not obeying the legitimate military order but an order against the military ethics. They only formed ignorance after the coup failed and they discovered that the top Igbo politicians and military officers were not killed like those from their tribe. But saying they were forced to join the coup is pure lies, go and watch Major Nzeogwu's broadcast about this issue of saying he forced the none Igbo soldiers to join the coup. The record must be set straight. Did the young Igbo officers that carried out the coup did the right thing? NO, they messed things up, they were absolutely wrong and that coup shouldn't have happened in the first place, they were wrong. But was the coup an Igbo coup? Hell NO it wasn't because they never consulted Igbo communities or community leaders or sociocultural groups to get Igbo people's approval to embark on a coup, so calling it an Igbo coup just to use the opportunity to incite every other Nigerian tribe against Igbos and set Igbos up for genocide was the highest form of man's inhumanity to fellow man and Nigeria will continue paying the price of that wickedness until you all repent and seek for full Igbo forgiveness by coming out clean to apologize and make some redress. Igbos are very straightforward people, they don't deny what they did. Ojukwu sought the approval of Igbos before declaring Biafra. He consulted Students, market women, artisans, council of chiefs, etc and they said yes since Gowon refused to stop the genocide against Igbos after the counter coup, that they cannot continue to coexist in one nation with people killing them, Ojukwu being the Eastern Region Military Governor, he had the constitutional right to protect the Easterners from aggressors, so he declared Biafra an independent state after consulting with Old Eastern Nigeria forums, including Igbo unions and forums at Nsukka. From there Igbos left all parts of Nigeria they were and headed back to Eastern Nigeria. That is what you can call Igbo people's mutual agreement not military coup decided and executed by a handful of soldiers led by mostly Igbo soldiers, and because they intentionally or mistakenly spared Igbo politicians and top military officers, you guys wickedly tagged it an Igbo coup. May nature judge you all the same way you judge Igbos wicked souls. If you guys dont repent and refrain from your evil gangup against Igbos and seek for sincere Igbo forgiveness, that injustice perpetrated against Igbos since 1966 will never let Nigeria progress beyond where it is as a nation no jokes |
