Typical Nigerian situation.

How can imported pms be cheaper than locally refined pms when the raw material is located in the same country?

Like I have always said, subsidy removal is never an end in itself, but a means to an end

The moment apc and bat made removal of subsidy an end in itself, that was when I knew that they did not know what they are doing.

You do not remove subsidies without first sanitising the sector and removing the corruption, bottlenecks and inefficiencies hindering the system, mapping out clear objectives of what is to be achieved by subsidy removal, factor in the socioeconomic impact on the common man and lastly, you must walk the talk, if the people must go through the pain of subsidy removal, political office holders must go through the same thing.
God bless you for this straightforward explanation, may ur days be long!

So, you prefer borrowing billions of dollars to import and subsidized petrol claiming it is cheaper?
I am querying why you have a problem with reviving our moribund refineries to increase the availability and protect Nigerians from monopoly. Seems you have forgotten your own post

.

Now if PHR has been working to 60% capacity as been said, Warri too is working while Dangote refinery is working at full capacity while then the need to import fuel again? Àbi them want tell us another story again? So you should have been logical and diffuse his believe with fact instead of the subtle jab because sincerely I am confused too.
It's an open market.
The issue is, Dangote and NNPC were supposed to sell at a cheaper rate than imported gas

What about quality?

TBh, I don't think Nigerians like quality, that's why Chinese products dey reign.
Most Nigerians don't realize that there is leaded and unleaded fuel. We don't care about quality, but I don't blame most of us. Nigeria is fond of selling you fake things in guise of it being of quality, yet it'd be at the price of something quality.

Why are imported products putting exchange rate in mind, cheaper than locally made products? Nigerian Economics no dey textbook. cheesy

In the long run there is no way imported fuel can be cheaper than Dnagote fuel ..I would rather buy Dangote fuel 1000 naira than buy that imported fuel that' burns 4 times faster for 960

The truth is always bitter. Continue to support a government that export raw materials to Europe, borrow from the Europeans to import and subsidize claiming is cheaper while the Europeans buys cheaper quality petrol from Dangote.

Even with Nigeria refinery thats working now. My Dad bought tear rubber car in this country for 2000 naira b4. They are all crooks!!!!!

Naira was btw 1000-1300 and they were saying landing cost was 730-800 now naira is 1600..landing cost is coming down!! shocked

The only way to protect Nigerians from monopoly is to remove subsidy which makes it profitable to refine at home

Already NNPC is racing to get it's refineries ready, bua is there too, there are at least 3 other working private refineries and people are getting refining licences

1. 2000 naira was a lot of money back then. Most Nigerians won't have been able to afford new cars.

2. Cars were cheaper to make then than they are today. My second hand Toyota is more expensive manufacturing cost wise than my dad's 1983 Peugeot which cost him 13000 naira

3. People took loans to buy cars then. My dad's 1983 Peugeot was paid for with loans. Which had to be paid back. From the salary

4..Refining petrol costs a lot of money. It costs about 700-800 naira to produce a liter of fuel. The process of refining also produces waste that is a loss money wise. Then there is transport and maintenance cost plus the fact that dangote took loans to build the refinery. And the refining process is international standard, not rofo rofo standard

Naturally petrol would be expensive

Really?

Is there any country in the world that sells unsubsidized petrol at the equivalent of N600 per liter?

Nothing more to add.
To make one liter even costs 700-800 naira.

If dangote sold that same liter at 500 naira, his business will collapse

it is expensive becos both are under the influence of price control by forex & int'l market price

imagine $1/500 today fuel price will be around #300

what the govt should be focusing more on is how to strengthen the Naira, that is what will turn around the economy

Suddenly import is now cheaper.

You're not seeing what I'm seeing?

Same way MTN and Airtel claimed price can't come down until Glo entered the market.

Once there's a competition, things like this start happening.

As long as the imported ones are of the same or higher quality than that of NNPC and Dangote, let the price war continue.
Imported with heavy subsidy

We all that petrol importers usually have a landing cost of N1,300 but will price it N900 at their depot and demand N400 for under-recovery cost from the government and NNPCL is the leader.
