I get the point about supporting Trump’s decision to halt HIV funding for Nigeria. Hope this does not affect those working in the NGO sector, the US is one of the largest donors for humanitarian causes worldwide including the WHO. Many states in the Northern part of the country rely on NGOs to survive.

No, they wouldn't have. The aid is like free rain. If there was no rain, they'd dig well or borehole or desalinate water or run pipes. Everywhere in the world, treatment of terminal diseases is taken seriously regardless of socioeconomy, so 'no one' would have died.
