Access to energy has been associated with industrialization and prosperity, while the lack of it has been associated with endemic poverty. This is a reason for the clear difference between the performance of most African countries and their western counterparts. In addition, increasing world population triggers conversations on issues of sustainability, especially in matters of food production, water supply, transportation and energy. Hence, conversations have shifted to aligning with the UN SDG goal 7 "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all", which aims, to limit global temperature to 1.5°C.https://www.thecable.ng/from-fossil-fuels-to-cleaner-energy-mix-challenges-and-opportunities-for-nigeria/

Don’t let them push you around, we are just getting it right , don’t let them derail us, America still selling its crude oil till tomorrow, This is modern colonialism, switching the game to where they can beat Nigeria blue black We are not allowed to generate power with uranium, but they are doing it, shut down all Nuclear plants world wide, then I will take this colonialists serious on clean energy |

They used fossils fuel to industrialize and developed. Now they are preaching clean energy. Abeg abeg climate has always changed before industrialization. Eg ice age, Sahara desert |

Climate change is a very big scam, the earth has been changing climatic conditions based on the axis of tilt of the tectonic plate (Africa and South America once shared the same tectonic plate until the plates split and gave birth to two continents, as we speak a split is happening gradually in Africa and we may have another continent spring up from Africa in the distant future) in a particular location in relation to the position of the sun which is the main body responsible for climatic conditions of a given location. Sahara desert was once a heavily forested region and more recently we just saw snow fall in parts of Southern Africa. Drop in fossil fuel consumption worldwide wont affect Nigeria in anyway with the emergence of dangote refinery and awakening of the other 3 refineries. If the world nor need am globally, patapata we go run am locally. Nigeria is on its way to self sufficiency and that is a major source of concern for the west. |

ednut1:you have sense, they just want to derail and confuse Africa, aren’t they running nuclear plants till date, its all mind game, they should shut down all their refineries first, then we will take them serious They keep confusing African leaders |

ednut1:Every now and then, the global powers define the direction for the world and developing countries are expected to follow without an understanding of the fundamentals. For example, when Russia-Ukraine war started, Poland fired their coal-fired power plants. They want us to embrace clean energy, but where do we get the funds to develop clean energy infrastructure when they offer pittance? To borrow and remain perpetually indebted! Trump is already talking about drilling. I think the writer makes sense in arguing that we should develop what we have to get the money to fund what we need. It is an interesting read. |

I and my family have already delivered ourselves from light issues. Solar all the way. Technology has made it easier for us. We've got the sun, we've got the power we need. |

We have no business with any thoughts of clean energy at this stage of our development. Nigeria needs to be industrialized with the help of the cheapest sources of energy. So, our concerns right now is price of energy sources not wether it is green or blue or red! For easy industrialization of a country, cheap energy is the most important factor and that must be the focus for now. When America, Europe and China were pursuing drastic industrialization, they never cared about clean energy, so why should we? The green energy crusade is a strategy to prevent developing countries from becoming industrialized. |

Cleaner Energy like CNG and Solar are very expensive to the developing countries. Truth must be told. Imagining converting petrol powered vehicle to CNG powered vehicle is close to =N=1million for the masses that struggling in this economy and not to talk about installing Solar in your residence. |

This is a beautiful read. I love where the writer spoke about speedy development and harnessing of our fossil fuel to fund the future. Government need to put in the right policies to enhance Gas production. Transition is not happening any time soon; oil and gas is going to be available for a long time but it's high time we as a nation take our economy and diversification of our resources seriously. Our oil and gas production capacity is still wobbling as a nation. Train 7 construction is ongoing but even when it comes on board, that will still not be enough. The discussion on massive investment in gas has been on for years now. Where are we on the decade of gas? What happened to Brass LNG? |

Developing countries need to industrialize fast by any means necessary to catch up with the 1st world countries. After that, we can start talking about decarbonization. Imagine having a large expanse of land for solar farm because you are trying to reduce carbon emission yet displacing plant/animal life hence negative impact on the biodiversity.... Although I'm a sustainability expert, I am skeptical that there is a grand agenda to slow down development in Africa and countries with abundance of fossil fuel. |
