HIV drugs are expensive. Very much so. Back in the good old days, an accquaintance of my dad's was spending half his salary on HIV drugs for himself and his son. That was before the days of PEPFAR.

And they used to be more expensive. In the early 2000's there was a big fight to reduce the price of the drugs. Court cases, people like Bill Gates advocating, etc....

Even now, new HIV drugs are still expensive. There is a new drug that is very very revolutionary. It works and can be given once every three months. South Africa was negotiating with the drug company to buy the drug. The drug company massively cut the price of the drug...to the point that they would lose money selling it...and yet it was far too expensive for South Africa. Right now, they are at a deadlock in negotiations. Neither side is budging.

If you want your government to fund the drugs...then maybe you should vote a government that would do like the UK does...take half your salary to fund things like a NIgerian National health service, where heathcare would be free totally at the point of entry.

go get your aid and grants from BRICS

Totally agree. Depending on other nation for handout for infectious disease process management is high-key a silly way of life. Hopefully, this funding hold extends beyond 90 days. Going cap in hand begging all the time for things we should be able to do for self is ridiculous. High time the Executive arm re-evaluate subvention that should be allocated to combat infectious diseases . It's either we survive or perish, generational begging can't continue.

big pharma in the US are pretty much inflating the heck out of this drugs. it's scammy tendency all through the pipeline from donor to recipient. IF Nigeria is serious, India Pharmaceutical companies should be brought to this issue, the differential is crazy, light/day compared to the US. The moles in our government would be the first to talk trash about the product from india sadly.
