Wallade:Sharia law in Nigeria is legal under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly in the northern states that have adopted it. The key constitutional sections that allow for the implementation of Sharia law include: 1. Section 6(5)(k) – Establishment of Sharia Courts This section recognizes the existence of Sharia Courts of Appeal at both the state and federal levels, allowing them to adjudicate matters of Islamic personal law. 2. Section 38 – Freedom of Religion This section guarantees Nigerians the right to practice and manifest their religion, including following Islamic law if they choose to. This has been used to justify the implementation of Sharia in states where the majority of people are Muslims. 3. Section 275 – Creation of a State Sharia Court of Appeal This section allows any state with a Muslim majority to establish a Sharia Court of Appeal to handle civil matters involving Islamic personal law (e.g., marriage, inheritance, and family disputes). 4. Section 277 – Jurisdiction of the Sharia Court of Appeal Defines the limits of Sharia law, restricting it to personal matters involving Muslims (such as marriage, inheritance, waqf, and guardianship). Criminal matters under Sharia law are controversial because the Nigerian Constitution already defines a common legal framework under secular law. |

So Christians, Ogun worshippers, Ayelala worshippers, Sango worshippers, Osun and Esu Elegbara worshippers and the rest isese people should have their own separate religious laws and courts? This is Yoruba land you are talking about oh. This is the only region in Nigeria that has public holiday every year to celebrate traditional religion. I think you are high on Mpurumiri |

amaridigital:If they have any they can go ahead na, so why must you stop or dictate for Muslims? Nobody is stopping you from practicing your religion na u this intolerant set of people... Now the Oro festival you guys normally declaring a curfew isn't that a limitation to the application of rule of law? When you declare a curfew is that not affecting other religions? Or is only traditional worshipers we have in the south West? You this hypocrite. |

Ojuntana:What were the Yoruba muslims doing before the invasion of their land by the Fulani? Did they not have a head of islam? I now see the biological difference between a Yoruba and Igbo brain. Sultan tells you that he is the head and father of your religion and you not only believe him, but you are ready to kill your own brothers for him. What happened to your own father, the one who actually born you, who was a Muslim before the Fulanis came? |

If Nigerians don't disrupt the religious tolerance in Yoruba land it will be very difficult to take power and economy from SW, the battle to use Islam to disorganise the Yoruba tribe has been on since the time of Uthman Dan Fodio who couldnt spread Islamic religious fanatism division beyond Ilorin in Yoruba land. This current ploy led by Sultan to infiltrate Yorubas and sow religious division has to go on or else Yorubas will continue to control political power in Nigeria. |

ahmedio2017:Okay, does the Sharia law supersedes the civil and statutory laws. I think it may be in the penal codes hence it is not operational across the country except in the North. I also think that the Sharia courts are in the class of the customary court and perhaps a Sharia appeal court, any case decided in that court can be appealed to a Federal high court, an then to Federal Court of Appeal..... I am not a lwyer, but I think so |
