Hours after being granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja, activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, led a protest demanding the removal of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, News360 Nigeria reports.

Sowore, who had earlier been granted ₦10 million bail with one surety, took to the streets of Abuja with his supporters, carrying placards with the hashtag #EgbetokunMustGo.

The activist accused Egbetokun of remaining in office despite reaching retirement age, an infraction that, according to him, had led to the dismissal of other police officers. In a post on X, Sowore compared Egbetokun’s situation to that of an officer, Inspector Linus Okoro, who was allegedly detained for the same reason.

"These two police officers @PoliceNG were found to have committed the same infraction by failing to relinquish their positions upon retirement. One, Inspector Linus Okoro, was taken into custody for wrongdoing, while the other, Kayode Egbetokun, proceeded to arrest citizens who called out his infractions. This is unfair! #RevolutionNow #EgbetokunMustGo," Sowore wrote.

The protest follows his ongoing legal battle, where he faces 17 cybercrime charges over a controversial social media post referring to Egbetokun as an “illegal IGP.”

Sowore likes protests more than the real governance. He shouldn't be taken seriously.

Hope these jobless youths following him to carry placards are being paid monthly stipends? I still don't know how many of his "...must go" that has come to pass. He is just a play boy seeking popularity by force from bottom up for future political purposes

Finito. Nigerians have worked him out as an unserious individual and student union leader-type only interested in protests and not fit for political leadership.

This is why he performed worse in the 2023 election than against Buhari in 2019. Dating proof Sowore is now a nobody in the eyes of Nigerians. To include those who followed him passionately a few years ago.

He is stale now and should go back to the US and stay there to raise his kids.
