Every weekend in the UK, millions hang out with their friends at beer parlors, clubs, cinemas, etc. So the question really is why you are OK doing that in Nigeria but not in the UK? Wetin dey hold you back?

If you are a church person, join a church and be active, if not join some social clubs like Rotary, volunteer. Those associations will help with the depression

If you return.. You will.wish to go back. Look for trusted persons and do business. Occupy yourself and stop being depressed except its spiritual. Load drums and ship to naija. I know someone who uses plastic drums to bring in items. Rice, supplements, clothes and the rest. If you recharge electricity for two months and fuel your car .. steady for 3 months .. your little savings you came back to naija with will disappear. Manage and stay. Keep in touch with people back home and don't isolate. I wish you well. ✌️

Why u say that tho? I am also seriously thinking of leaving the US to live in Nigeria. All we do here is work and pay bills. Life as y'all know it in Nigeria is not obtainable here. Its a socially cold, distant and impersonal culture here in the US.....and much of the West. Very lonely daily routine bereft of spark, devoid of life and true living. Just a boring drone of daily monotonous repetitiveness. No wife, no kids, no family nearby. All my family members are scattered far from me....way out in DC, Baltimore, Los Angeles etc. Just living a lonely life here in Atlanta. Yes I have my own house, 2 cars (all paid off) and all the comforts of daily life. But there is no spark. No connection with other human beings. Everyone is cocooned in their own world. Is this life?? When will once start to live?

As a Nigerian you don’t need visa to go back to Nigeria. Just book your flight and you don’t need to start anything, Alhaji Tinubu will give you job. Start from there and leave the UK alone. As e dey sweet some people e no go pain dem

There are many of us in similar circumstances. I've been in the U.K for 20+ years. Many of my contemporaries are either going back or planning to go back. I too am planning to go back to Nigeria but here are some useful pointers for you as i have more experience than many.

-Moving back is a process that will take a few years if planned properly
-You need to choose a good location. Abuja is number 1. Lagos is number 2
-You need to sort out a bank account
-You need to sort out your BVN
-You need to sort out your NIN
-You need to sort out your driver's license
-You need to sort out accomodation.
-You need to sort out transportation.
-Also ensure you can still access your U.K pension after all your years of hardwork
-Keep your U;K credit card handy
-Arrange it so you are kind of in between the two places.(There are many reasons for this )
-Ensure you still maintain a U.K address(even if its a care of address where they collect your mmail(very important)
-You need a small network of people you can trust a bit. They will help you with errands,information and low level types of advise(where to buy things etc).
-Download the JIJI Nigeria app. Its free. This is a treasure trove of information and statistics. Tells you average price of things,house,cars,generator,rent etc amongst many other things.
-If you have the funds and wish to buy a house sites like NigeripropertyCentre.com is probably the best for house hunting.
-You need to sort out income generation. This is the most difficult part (and why we all left Nigeria in the first place). I can't tell you what to do here as it's personal to each person.

This is a recommended way:

=Go back to Nigeria for an extended holiday first. Say 3-6 weeks (employer/business permitting)
=Sort out the first few pointers i mentioned.
=Do your feasibility studies on where you'd like to live and things you'd like to do.
=Come back to the U.K. and restrategise.
=Try not to be guided by emotion
=Then start relocating in phases 2-3 Months blocks then return(it,ll be an essential learning curve)
=Be clear about what you want and why you're doing it
For the some people in the UK the reasons are (tired of the bad weather,no social life,no meaningful relationships,missing friends and family,becoming disillusioned with life as a coloured minority and 2nd class citizen,high taxes,racism,reaslising your potential can never be achieved here,knowing retirment age poverty is a near certainty,knowing getting on the property ladder is nigh impossible,knowing that even if you get on the property ladder its a scam due to high initial deposit requirements,knowing that even if you got on the property ladder you may be paying for it till your 70s or dead,wanting a change of environment,hatred of local goverment policy,hatred of central government policy,relationship failure,spouse taking your children,spouses taking your house,rubbish food the list goes on and on.

On your penultimate question of how much is needed. This is impossible to honestly answer. It's like asking how much do i need to live throughout life. You need to make a list of things you need to spend money on. Then another list of the things you need first and those you can get later. That list will guide you on required funds. Then add 10-30% on top for contingencies and unplanned expenses as they also follow like night follows day.

I wish you good luck but know that youre not alone. There's a long line of us Nigerian/Brits marching to the exit door.

Even the UK Winter does not need to be depressing. Load up on your Vitamin B & D, shop for and wear appropriate weather gear, and, meet up with friends as frequently as you used to, or hang out in public bars, malls, movies, etc, as often as you would like. Join an outdoors club if you are up for it.

You are right. I have vitamin D supplements at home. I also try to hangout with friends most weekends. This helps me to unwind and at least interact freely with people which I don't get to do on weekdays

Yeah! So, as long as one is ready to socialize, there are so many avenues to do so. So, I don't understand why folks presume it is OK to claim life abroad is boring or lonely. No be the same abroad their many politicians for Nigeria dey steal up-and-dan to buy houses and citizenship for their children and family again? Do those ones every get lonely or depressed abroad?

I am not being combative but rather trying to help you see that loneliness can also be a result of personal choices made. Every night and weekend, people all over the people, meet up and socialize with each other. Many even do so over remote connections. Here you are telling us that you not only made personal choices to deny you that ability for a long time and you continue to remain lonely even after reaching your goal. How is the place you live in to blame for this I am trying to get you to reason.

One thing I will say to this UK SYSTEM SWALLOWING YOU is , if it's monetarily like expenses, tarrifs, taxes , you works non stop , doing some jobs that you ought not to do because of money to pay bills ? .

I will say , you should calm down , take it easy , do not rush to take this way you posted . This happening everywhere in a different ways. Infact I will even say over there still better off over here for now ..

Just find yourself, work on yourself, know what you need or want and start working on it .. Don't go into any competition with yourself e.g like saying " I need to work myself all out everyday to be able to hit target of making 1k pound everyday.. do the little you can do and leave the rest for other day ..

And if it's about you , you may need to adjust something about you , just see that place as a place you go to work , be cautious, calculative and don't do pass yourself...

Yes I am still lonely.....no i take that back. I am more lonesome than lonely. Aint nun strange bout this. I'm sure you are aware of this as I sense you also live in the West. Loneliness is a huge social problem in the West, especially in America, a nation that emphasizes Do-It-Yourself-ness, individualism and richly rewards lone mavericks and geniuses. Good thing tho is I am not depressed or mentally perturbed by the lonesomeness. I have grown to love the privacy, peace, quiet and tranquility. But I am a huge and mighty ebullient extrovert. That side of me longs for the open freewheeling style of life in Nigeria.

my advise. if you don't have some serious money saved, don't try it.
one week of suffering in Nigeria will cure that depression sharply if you no get money.
your best bet is to hustle and save some serious cash them retire back to Nigeria.
