Arne Slot says Liverpool's Champions League fixture at PSV Eindhoven has "no importance" after leaving his star players at home.  Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz, Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have all been left out of their 21-player squad. Liverpool will finish in either first or second place in the league phase having won all seven matches and Slot is using the opportunity to rest his regular starters.

"All the ones that are left behind could have played tomorrow," said Slot, "but for the long term, if you look back at our season, it has been almost every time after three or four or five weeks we gave them a break during the week when there was a League Cup or an FA Cup [game], if there was a moment for them to get some freshness back we have always done that.

"It took me a while to understand this new [Champions League] format. I always say when I think I’m 100 per cent sure, I use ‘99.9’ but now I can say I’m 100 per cent sure that it doesn’t matter at all if we end up one or two [in the table] because we will play 14, 15, 16, 17 and then in the end it’s a draw [for] which of the teams we are going to face.

'So this is a game for us – because we are now No.1 or No.2, we cannot drop to No.3 – that has no importance of result coming to the league table.  "But a very wise man once said to me, ‘I have never seen anything good coming from losing a football game’ so we are not going into the game tomorrow trying to lose the game, we will do everything we can to try to win it, of course."

Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to be in the transfer market this summer as they look for goal-scoring options. The Premier League’s title challengers are expected to have a number of mutual targets with Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak seemingly an attractive option for both clubs.

Football Transfers (h/t 90min) has claimed that Liverpool are ‘leading’ Arsenal in their bid to sign Isak with the Gunners consequently shortlisting Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres as an alternative.

Gyokeres as well as Isak will bear significant price tags with the former’s asking fee reportedly set at approximately £59 million. The Newcastle star, on the other hand, will cost much more with Sky Sports’ Pete Graves claiming on the Transfer Talk podcast that the Magpies value the ex-Real Sociedad striker at £200 million.

Marcus Rashford has officially joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Rashford was frozen out by Ruben Amorim at Manchester United and was told he would not play for the club.
Villa have agreed to pay at least 75 per cent of his £350,000-a-week wages, but that could rise to 90 per cent with performance related bonuses.
Unai Emery's side could then make the loan permanent in the summer for £40million.

Ansu Fati wants to fight for his Barcelona first team future in the final months of the 2024/25 season.

Despite his return to fitness at the end of 2024, the Spain international is not in Hansi Flick’s plans, ahead of a busy start to 2025.
Flick previously confirmed his willingness to keep Fati in the squad, if an exit deal could not be agreed for the Spain international, but the club preferred an exit.

Even if he left Tottenham Hotspur to fulfil his wish of winning club silverware, Harry Kane's love for the club has never diminished. That is proven in his well-wishes to new signing Mathys Tel.

Tottenham remained active into the late hours of the night, even beyond Monday's transfer deadline all so that they could announce the loan capture of striker Tel from Bayern Munich.
It marked a dramatic U-turn as only three days prior the 19-year-old had told chairman Daniel Levy he did not wish to make the move. A deadline day call from Ange Postecoglou helped change his mind and now he has moved to North London on loan with the €55m (£45.7m) option to join permanently for six years.
