Lol, maybe he should go and protest! One minute, he’s the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, and the next, the court says, “Nope, step down.” This whole thing started because the former governor appointed him at the last minute, and now the new administration isn’t having it. It’s just another classic case of political drama mixed with tradition. But for now, he might need to find a new title because the court has spoken. Maybe “Former Ohinoyi” has a nice ring to it? 😂

People in politics have destroyed our traditional institutions. it's so pathetic.
Don't blame our politicians . Blame the British.

Colonial rule in essence made traditional leaders subordinate to the local British resident. ( A British Resident was basically someone similar to a state governor today) . Almaglamation in essence codified the subordination. Independence meant that the British resident was replaced by regional leaders and eventually state governor.

Also, resolving traditional ruler cases by court is actually the civil way compared to precolonial times when such a dispute often meant severe crisis and even war.

I will always maintain that these traditional rulers have outlived their usefulness.

The British deliberately undermined the institutions and our politicians made it easy for them to be more useless.

Today monarchy in the British is still recognized and no govt can influence their throne.

The question now is, do we still keep them or scrap them altogether?

If we keep them, how do we ensure that they’re independent of govt influence?

He was appointed after the demise of the former Ohinoyi at the twilight of the Yahaya Bello administration as the custom and tradition of ebira demand not as if I enthronement purposely delayed till the time. The judgement is of no consequence as it will be swiftly appeal. Some people feel they are qualified to occupy the throne of the Ohinoyi of ebiraand based on inheritance but forgetting that by our lay down tradition and practices, every sons of ebiraland are Prince and so we all have equal right to aspire to head the throne. Our kingship is not by inheritance but by qualification based on character and substance.

AngloLatinos:
Yaya Bello is the cause of his dethronement. Why will he appoint him at the twilight of administration and why not doing so earlier?

Man succefully turned the state upsidedown

Who gave that traditional ruler the right or mandate to rule over the people for generations? Imagine inheriting the right to rule over thousands forever!

Our traditional rulers cannot handle modern societies. You just cannot be given automatic leadership from birth

I used to say this but later I learnt better, u see its not a question of who gave them, what matters most is how well they govern the people, whether is me or my brother or my cousin, it does not matter. Have you noticed that in African tradition in most tribes it is a taboo for a king to leave his kingdom, so the stupid looting that most politicians do is not applicable to traditional rulers, if them steal where dem wan carry am go? I mean how do you even steal from yourself? unlike politicians that can steal from their people and run to colonial masters to hide it there and still cannot claim it later because it will be labelled as 'loot'.
I am so Pan-African and I believe our system is better than what the white man brought.
when your governors are passing(the rogues installed by colonial thieves) they use siren and police to chase you out of the road, but when your king is passing the entire village can go out and dance and jubilate.

You're not too far from the truth adoza.

One of the way forward towards implementing what you just said is by rejecting the colonial tools of enslavement which is islam and Christianity. One of the greatest factors pulling Africans backward are the colonial religion brought to us by the invading colonialist.
