The money would be used to repay the loan, and also for maintenance.

The road would shorten travel time, also reduce vehicle breakdown.

Yeah sure. Imma lover of good road tbh and paying 2k for a good road per travel isn't so much but my issue is, we're not sure if the road is of a standard type that last decades like the ones Abacha do construct

I prefer to pay #2,000 toll fees from Abuja on a very smooth road than to spend #100,000 on repair of car after arriving makurdi. It's all about being reasonable.

How much did it cost to construct this road? Concessioning this road for tolling for 25 years? Is that not excessive and a give away to China?
We must remember that a report came out that check points in the South East from August to December last year reportedly extorted over 100 billion naira from motorists. So imagine how much the Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi road will generate in 5 years. Possibly over a trillion naira. Did the road cost that much?

If subsidy has been removed, shouldn't the free funds be used to pay off loans collected for projects like this?

They are currently working on the Makurdi to Enugu axis with money China has made available. This will add a possible 5 tolling points. A vehicle traveling from Enugu to Jos will cross over 9 toll gates. That's absurd to say the least.

These tolling points will work 24/7. With huge volumes of cash in their possession. They will be prime targets for armed robbers.

These amounts are outrageous. For such projects u don't recover ur money immediately but over serveral years since government can build basic roads themselves.
