It was on a fateful Thursday in one of the schools where I teach coding, a day that also doubled as their open day. Parents came into the class during my lesson, with students standing to greet and welcome them. It was a challenging time, but the class continued nonetheless.

I was teaching Grade 2 students how to make animations, and after the lesson, as I prepared to dash to my next class, a parent requested to see me. She had questions about a technical issue with the laptop and software her daughter used for assignments. Her concern was that the project disappeared when the software was closed. I resolved the issue and, afterward, the parent asked a profound question:
“What is the usefulness of this class? It seems like they’re just playing.”

That question made me reflect. Coding education is gradually making its way into primary and secondary schools, and with it comes legitimate questions from parents. When they see coding class fees on the term bill, they understandably want to know if the class adds real value.

Let me explain why coding is essential for your child:

Preparing Them for the Future

Starting kids early with coding gives them a head start. The world is evolving rapidly, with technology driving much of this change. From artificial intelligence to innovations in robotics, coding skills are the foundation for many future careers. Paying for that coding class is an investment in your child’s future, equipping them to adapt to a world pregnant with innovations.

The world needs problem solvers—people who can think critically and develop solutions. Coding teaches kids how to break down challenges, experiment with different approaches, and think logically. By participating in coding classes, your child becomes part of a generation ready to tackle global challenges.

Every child has untapped creativity waiting to blossom. Coding provides an outlet for them to turn ideas into reality. Whether creating animations, games, or apps, coding allows children to unleash their imagination. All those amazing games and apps we use today started as ideas in someone’s mind—coding brings those ideas to life.
