Holding Kursk is not about economic benefit, it's about bruising Russia's ego. Imagine saying Ukraine carved out a part of Russian territory, redrew the map of Russia in a war that had the odds firmly in Russia's favour. It's not the same as saying Russia took Donbass. Why? Cos everyone expected Russia to do so but no one could ever have thought Ukraine can carve out a part of Russia and made it its own.
