You got it right. A close zoom on the snake's head shows it's actually a cobra....

I never knew a dog could kill a snake. shocked

Only know of mongoose.
Domestic cat, some birds, honeybadger and some other animals kill snakes easily, especially cat. The snake is either a forest or spitting cobra. For sure, from the writers notions about the dog, the snake had bitten the dog, hence the reason foe the dog sickly behaviour. But thank God he quickly called the vet to come to the dog's aid...
That snake is venomous
Re: My Dog Killed This Snake by fineboynl(m): 7:49pm On Feb 07, 2025
I believe a little dose of venom enters your dog blood and chances of survival is very slim. You already wasted too many hours. Only the anti venom can save the dog. Probably bitten from the head side.

OMG, that's probably a Forest Cobra.

Because dogs are not instinctively responsive like cats, the snake might've pinched it a bit in trying to kill it without it knowing. Then the venom starts to set in. If there was a bite indeed, it's probably neurotoxin.
And if there was a bite indeed, I doubt your vet will have an anti-venom.

Please keep us posted. Wishing your dog the best.
Do something about that area.
A snake like that in your compound means there are many around. And this is not even rainy season.
If rain season come start, nko?
Re: My Dog Killed This Snake by Ray07(m): 7:51pm On Feb 07, 2025
Cobrati. . . Amphibian with colors are no go areas for me. Venom and poison are their second name.

Don't waste your money on treatment for the dog, it a gone case with time.

Why does all snake look like black mamba to you guys? Black mamba is not black but pale grey, it has black pigmentation in the mouth that is why it's black mamba, most are green and if it is black mamba that dog would have been dead already

Your dog is as good as dead without proper vet intervention.

The only animals that can come out unscathed in a fight with this snake is a cat (faster reaction time) honey badger (immunity to venom) and the mongoose (immunity to venom).
You are very correct, especially those domestic cats. They are very quick and reactive and faster than snake strikes.

That's a cobra. You should've given the dog a large dose of palm oil as first aid before going to the vet for the anti-venom. I pray the dog makes it
