Lol....when it is your turn, please run back to Nigeria for medical care.

Rossychy:
I can agree with him because I know of someone that had to travel back to Nigeria to get treated of her disease. She believed she would get a proper care here.
Some of our doctors are amazing. They know the work and do it well.

Kudos to the doctors that have not yet japaed.

This news, while seemingly positive for medical tourism in Nigeria, raises serious ethical concerns. It means that at least 13 Nigerians—most likely from economically disadvantaged backgrounds—had to sell their kidneys. In many cases, organ donors in such situations are driven by financial desperation rather than genuine altruism.

The reality is that these donors likely received only a fraction of the actual cost paid by the foreign patients, with middlemen and brokers profiting significantly. Given Nigeria's weak regulatory framework for organ donation, there’s also a risk that some of these transplants were facilitated under exploitative or coercive conditions.

Ultimately, this highlights a disturbing imbalance: while wealthy foreigners receive life-saving transplants, vulnerable Nigerians are left with one kidney and minimal compensation, facing long-term health risks with little to no medical support.

I don't think you people use to digest whatever you read on nairaland before you rush to throw your jab as usual.
If it is really cheap according to your point, why did your brother Ekweremadu still have to travelled to the country where the kidney is very cost in price before he got caught?
Mumv people everywhere.

We export oil to the US, now we're going to export transplant kidneys too?
I hope the govt, doctors, and security officers know where this is going!

This is already happening, has been happening for many years to kidnap victims inside the forests of southern Nigeria
A woman who paid ransom in Port Harcourt and secured her own release described the removal of internal organs from living kidnap victims on a metal operating table in the forest.

This is a very terrifying development to contemplate now that the organ transplant business is being advertised by the Nigerian government to foreigners paying in hard currency for those organs with no questions asked about how such organs were obtained.

This your comment is frightening!
But i know it can happen sha.

We do we now trust!
Hmmm ... can happen? ...been happening. Some of these hospitals make money on the dark web by selling organs ... if you know the price your eyes will open up. Ask yourself ... if you go to a hospital for pain in the stomach area ... especially if you're young...twenties ... Common diagnosis... appendicitis ...immediate surgery required... no problem...after all the appendix is useless. After surgery ... will you know what they took out from you? A relative of mine was asked repeatedly when she had kidney surgery.... response ...yearsss ago ... cesarian. Yearsss later ...she died ... autopsy ... she had one kidney. Similar with a guy ...stomach pain after appendix surgery... for years ... until he was asked same question... when did you undergo kidney surgery? Revelation stepped in. The pain was caused by them not putting back his inners correctly. Again...if you know anyone that had surgery....they need to check. I guess if one knows he has one kidney only....then he would change his lifestyle to prolong his life. We need to look out for ourselves and not open mouth and swallow what doctors say..,after all...all doctors are not doctors.

Holy phuck this is truly frightening to read about. The thought that many hospitals in Nigeria are stealing their patient's internal organs is enough to make a person quietly die of treatable illness at home instead of seeking medical help.

thecommunist:
you don't understand the dynamics here and I will explain it to you.
the reason why US citizens come to places like Nigeria for very expensive surgeries like transplant is that:
1. the waiting list to receive an organ in public health facility is very long in their country
2. it is also very expensive even in public faculties
3. believe it or not, doctors are in shortage over there as their kids would rather go to trade schools that is easy and takes about a year to complete. with this trade certs, they get jobs that pays as much as a doctor that spend as much as 7 year of tertiary hard learning .
4. private health facility is mostly out of reach for almost every person except the very wealthy .

the reason , Tinubu and other Nigerian big guys go abroad is :
1: security/ trust reasons. it is easier to compromise a Nigerian doctor and get him to botch an operation that will end a person's life. it will be very difficult to prove.
2.it leaves them vulnerable to harm , imagine the doctor that to treat him is secretly an obedient, or member of the opposition group that wants him dead. its better he goes to a doctor/ hospital that is neutral to Nigerian politics and has no reason to harm him(note that Osinbajo and Aregbesola were people he trusted that turned around to betrayed him, so dont be surprised he does not trust any Nigerian doctor)
3. they go to highly vetted doctors in private health facilities and not stand in the queue like an average American would.

i hope this makes sense to you.

by the way, I would never recommend Tinubu to submit himself to a nigerian doctor. there are many traitors in Aso rock.
This makes absolutely no sense.

It's saddening when otherwise educated and exposed youths are comfortable making excuses for politicians with no second thought to how ludicrous such excuses sound.

So Nigeria is the only country with a virile opposition? Are Obidients even up to half of what republicans or Democrats are in the US? The US president faced death twice during campaigns. I doubt any Nigerian president has ever faced any death scare in Nigeria like it obtains in the US.

It was in that same France that their president was slapped in the face. I've not heard macron abandon French hospitals because of that incident.

I hope you're aware the doctor who performed the knee surgery on Tinubu in the US is a Nigerian. I wonder what your advice sounds like now.

So to put the reason why our political elite prefer foreign hospitals down to the opposition politics is silly at best and insane at worst. I don't think any health professional in Nigeria will elevate politics above his professional duties. I can't believe you think so lowly of Nigerians.

As for the reasons you give why foreigners patronise Nigerian hospitals, it just shows ignorance on your part. Most of the so-called foreigners are actually Nigerians.

It is cheaper and even better for the average American if he chooses to go for such surgeries outside the US to go to Asian countries like Venezuela, India, Malaysia or Singapore than Nigeria. If you know anything about advancement of those countries in terms of healthcare you'll know you're so wide off the mark.

The daughter was living in and was hospitalised in the UK.

That's why he had to look for a Nigerian to take to the UK as donor

Re: 13 US Patients Undergo Kidney Transplants In Nigeria — Shettima by Mathewrichard99: 9:20pm On Feb 07, 2025
They didn't even investigate the reason those people came to Nigeria to do the kidney transplant before running their dirty smelling maggot ridden mouths.

They came because of the ease of getting donors. It's not easy getting donors in US couple with the high cost of the operation in the US.

The truth is that, the government has impoverished Nigerians to the point that Nigerians are ever ready to sell their organs for an agreed price just for them to live and take care of their family.

These stupid people should address the suffering they are causing and not taking credit on basis of citizens selling their body parts to stay alive.....

Sheuns:
See wetin VP of the most populous black nation dey take brag.

Why your principal no do him knee surgery for one of the world class hospitals he built while he was governor of Lagos state?

He also leaves LASUTH to go to France for check ups.

So this man wants to claim ignorance of the reason for the surge; dey play......it's just because it's easy to get organs without proper documentation and verification of the ethics behind it's sourcing. Why not ask yourselves why it's only an organ replacement medical tourism that's receiving the visits of the foreigners undecided undecided undecided undecided

Lol...no need to calm down seh! Ask Shettima himself if he would be willing to leave an important surgical proedure to hospitals in Nigeria. Isokuso!!

They speak gibberish and ridiculousness to shallow minds loke yoirs becaude they knoe you will swallow their lies hook, line and sinker.

A country that is highly ranked in communicable diseases, compared to Afghanistan in Infant mortality rate, ranked in same group as Somalia in childbirth rate, ranked as one of the few half a dozen countries that are yet to eradicate polio in the company of Afghanistan, a country that still has tuberculosis as a major disease(already wiped out in 98% of the countries ofbthe world), a country with a prevalent HIV infection rate of 13% per 1000 people amongst other major critical health deficiency factors and here the VP is speaking nonsense and we have dumbos hailing him and not pointing out the fallacies in his speech.

Please move back to Nigeria when you have a medical emergency.....just like your friend

I am sure they are harvested kidneys. The hospitals should reveal the source of the kidneys. Harvested organs is very rampant in Nigeria. Many killings and murders taking place daily with body organs removed. These organs are bought by agents I believe.
They cant buy these organs in their countries unless by donors thats why they come to Nigeria with their dollars converted to dollars.. then you see organ harvesters everywhere. Soon Nigeria will be the mecca for kidney transplant of the world. Its a shame.
Re: 13 US Patients Undergo Kidney Transplants In Nigeria — Shettima by delpee(f): 9:47pm On Feb 07, 2025
The question is how do they source for kidneys?
A bit worrying when we consider the spate of missing persons and what we think are ritual murders but are in fact, organ harvesting.
