Shut up!
Palm oil won't do anything to help the dog.
Venom enters the blood and not "eaten" or swallowed. That is the only routevthrough which palm oil could have been of very limited help.
Spitting ignorance with full chest.
Bushman!!
Asking someone old enough to be your father to shut up shows the type of upbringing you had.

Back to the issue of palm oil... I've had my dog bitten by a snake and had already passed out. I administered the palm oil, the dog vomited some yellowish liquid and came back to life. The dog stayed alive until the following morning when the vet came and administered anti-venom. Palm Oil neutralizes the venom to an extent. Market wey you no sabi still dey sell. Humble yourself and learn. I'm talking from personal experience and not some hearsay.

By the way, the local anti-venom they usually administer in the villages in cases of snake bite are applied orally. Just so you know

Looks like a mamba...

But can't tell the type from the picture.

Your dog can't eat or stand. Any bite marks?

Dogs barked just once... I am guessing it's a Rottweiler. Those ones no get time for too much noise!
Black mambas are native to east and southern africa

And if it spits its venom to your body, what will happen to you?
Onyiiobi7735:
grin grin Oh my God, the snake is a species of African Cobras, most likely a forest cobra.
Cobras are extremely venomous with one of the most potent venoms among venomous animals in general.
Cobra venom is extremely dangerous being composed of mainly neurotoxins but also cardiotoxins.
Their venom attacks the nervous and muscular systems, paralysing the parts controlling breathing and muscle activity, bringing death within minutes.
Cobras are among the world's deadliest snakes, courtesy of their neurotoxic venom.
Other snakes in this league include tiger snakes, brown snakes,Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Black Mamba,Death adders, Bushmaster vipers, Green mambas, and most other Elapids.
Cobras are very aggressive and can strike repeatedly especially the King cobra.
They are often remarkable for the hood they form by spreading the skin of their body near the head to intimidate enemies.
The hood spreading Mechanism is powered by muscles attached to the ribs.
The snake draws out the muscles, pulling the ribs and tissues to form the Trademark Hood of all Cobra species.
Some species of cobras possess the unique ability to spit venom and are collectively known as "SPITTING COBRAS".
Among the 30 species of cobras native to Asia and Africa,14 species can spit venom at intruders.
Spitting cobras intentionally spit venom at the eyes of an intruder to protect themselves and give them ample time to escape.
Spitting cobras are found both in Africa and Asia.
A spitting cobra spits by squeezing its venom glands and in applying pressure forces the venom out through the syringe like fangs in a jet like spray.
They are spectacularly successful in blinding an enemy by their accurate venom spray.

Omooo you dog was bitten.... If that venom took more than 2hrs it will most likely die
Re: My Dog Killed This Snake by Love800(m): 10:19pm On Feb 07, 2025
I want to ask.

If i got bitten by a snake, what will i do?

And, how will i even detect that i got bitten? Will i see a bite-mark there?

Father my foot.
Commonsense if you have much left should have told u to ask yourself that if palm oil found in every community and household was effective, why are people still dying from snake bites and why hasn't the active ingredient in that palm oil be extracted to be used to produce snake antidote in commercial and easily available amounts?
Let me help your brain with the answer:because not all snakes, indeed less than 50% are venomous,so that bite your dog received which you think your useless palm oil therapy solved, was a "sterile" bite, meaning,no venom was injected.
If you like learn from this,if you like continue wallowing and spreading your ignorance till someone dies from it.
THE ONLY PROVEN THERAPY FOR SNAKE ENVENOMATION IS SNAKE ANTI VENOM DRUG,in the dosage sufficient enough to neutralise the venom.
Father my foot, spreading dangerous information and still being proud about it!
You further compounded my anger by mentioning local anti vevom.
Infact, your case is not just lost, but a dangerous one.

Exactly what I was gonna say. The dog got bitten, and he's unlikely to survive. This is how I lost my pedigree german shepherd to a gaboon viper at my farm
My uncle's GSD snapped a spitting Cobra into two one night.

We woke up to see the snake in two halves but the dog's eyes were already swollen and red.

We called a Vet immediately and after some fews day. The swollen eyes went away and the dog was normal again.

You are correct. Cats caught unawares will always fall prey to snakes.

The the incident happened last night and you created this thread this afternoon, I doubt this snake is a mamba or Cobra. I even doubt the venom is potent, because your dog couldn't have survived the night with a single bite talk less of being alive as at when you posted this.

Why does all snake look like black mamba to you guys? Black mamba is not black but pale grey, it has black pigmentation in the mouth that is why it's black mamba, most are green and if it is black mamba that dog would have been dead already
Thank you. I don't know why anyone would think a dog will survive the night with a bite from a mamba.

The venom causes irritation to the skin and worse if it gets in contact with open wounds.

The snake in that picture is a cobra although I'm not completely sure which species. The red bands are a clear sign. The species more commonly found in this country is the forest cobra - easily identified by its yellow bands.

Edit: I'm not sure whether these snakes (with red or yellow bands) are all forest cobras...and whether the colour of the underbelly depends on how old the snake is. Those who know more about this can weigh in.

Domestic cat, some birds, honeybadger and some other animals kill snakes easily, especially cat. The snake is either a forest or spitting cobra. For sure, from the writers notions about the dog, the snake had bitten the dog, hence the reason foe the dog sickly behaviour. But thank God he quickly called the vet to come to the dog's aid...
That snake is venomous
