Kimbeast:I didn't say cut off but assimilate as much as possible to your new environment. Especially when you plan on making it your new abode If you're that proud of where you come from to the point that you elevate it ahead of your new location then why not go back to the Nigeria or wherever you're from. It's foolishness and quite frankly hypocrisy to go to another man country and be flying flag in public protests. Some countries it's against the law sef And yes certain countries require you to denounce your old country to become a citizen of that country. Donald Trump's grandfather is literally German. His real country is actually Germany. I don't hear him say make Germany great again |

iamoyindamola:he's bro, some Christians don't celebrate burial, that's why I said my Igbo brethrens because most Igbo people celebrate burial |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Nobody: 7:52am On Feb 08, 2025 |
swiz123:bro, no one forces anyone to spend this and that amount, you do it because you have the capacity and also you feel it's worth doing for your parents who re worth it.. In Igbo culture it's believed that if you celebrate your papa or mama burial well, they will rest in peace 🕊️.. Death ☠️💀 and burial is a thing of joy where dead people transition to another realm especially when your parents aged well and have lived their lives well.. so it's good to observe the necessary rites and rituals according to our culture.. Not everything we must copy and not everything we must criticise because of modernization |

Ibime:My dad died overnight ; I was called around 4am by my elder sister who informed me about his demise . I drove to my parents’ around 6.30am , met my sister there and we started making preparations for his burial . By 2pm we took him to one of his sites after the alfas had prayed on his body . He was buried before 4pm and we all headed home. My second sister who stayed in Abuja could not make it for the burial . It was the at the 8 days Fidau prayer who cooked and entertained guest . The Muslim burial deserves to be rated cos u are not put under much financial and social pressure by the death of a loved one . Just few community/family members can rally round and support the deceased immediate family without putting themselves under unnecessary pressure . You don’t need to start thinking of raising funds for coffin. I remember when my friend’s mum died suddenly one morning when she slumped in the bathroom. It was at a time he was at his lowest financially . Despite the fact that we the friends had to rally round him financially , it was a great financial stress for him cos the mum was a deaconess in church . They had to buy coffin , pay for embalment till next day , provide food for the guests and do other associated cost . |

seankafor:Nonsense culture where you will not eat for one year because you have to rebuild/refurbish the house in the village before you proceed with burial. People will literally put their lives on hold for 1 to 2 years just to rebuild the village house where they will not live. Meanwhile mortuary fees are piling up. That's before we even get to the ceremony expenses Once the average Igbo man loses a parent, he turns beggar everywhere. All his contacts go dey receive billings Like Jesus said, let the dead bury themselves |

Ibime:this is EXACTLY what happened. an old school mate lost her dad, and the next thing i was added to a whatsapp support group. like WTF? and this school mate is based in the UK. earning charlie paper. na we wey dey adjust to tinubu policy get disposable income for funeral matter? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Nobody: 9:37am On Feb 08, 2025 |
Ibime:like I said, no one is forced or is put a gun to the head to do these things.. people do it because they think they can. As for the begging part, people beg every time irrespective of whether it's burial or not.. And not everyone begs to bury their loved ones..there are those that have the capacity and does it effortlessly.. Even thoor in Igbo land, one person doesn't own a child, so during burial, depending on the kind of calibre of company you keep, you will receive 📲 Goodwill condolence supports here and there both from family and friends.this also stems down to the olden days where our fore father's and extended family members of the deceased comes together to help out the immediate family to bury their loved ones.. If you re the type that give others during their own timez, on your own day too, they will turn up for you.. Igboland practices kinda communalism culture..Aku ruo ulo culture.. We love merriment so we tend to look at the brighter side of every thing whether shortcomings or what not and fix merriment into it.. As someone who has buried both parents, I observed every culture that is meant to observe and I fill fulfilled that I gave my best according to my pocket together with my siblings. I'll also love same be done ✅ to me any day I leave the earth 🌍.. Let Muslims,Arabs ,others do their own, and let us also do our own.. e no hard like that |

GloriousGbola:It is only the rich Igbos that find it easy, the average ones don't at all. It is serious financial pressure for the ones I've seen . It gets worse that some of them who are traders, when they are done with the burial and go back to hustling, their business suffer because they've touched part of their capital in order to make the burial ceremony a success |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 9:42am On Feb 08, 2025 |
seankafor:It's not an attack. Our village culture is also the same. There is nothing wrong with pointing out which of your culture to replace Men are put on this earth for only 40-70 years. You can't spend 2 years of all your financial efforts burying your parents instead of putting away for your kids. Guess what, after everyone finish contributing to rebuilding the house in the village, it will still be left for only the senior brother to inherit ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Nobody: 9:47am On Feb 08, 2025 |
Ibime:most of these cultures has been refined also, it's not as archaic and demonizing as it was during the olden days.. It's believed that burying of loved one is the last respect to pay for him/her.. so it's within you to choose whether it's what's worth doing or not.. I've seen people who didn't observe all these rituals before burying their loved ones especially all those church people like JW,Chosen ,etc.. it's not by force, but if you don't do it, don't go and eat or sit where they re doing it..it's as simple as that.. . irrespective that the world has opened up modern wise, it's also good to preserve that which is our identity 🆔.. As for the house part, well like modernization now, many siblings are not chased away from their parents house 🏡🏠 these days . Infact, I can tell you in authority that homes no longer practice that which says that only first sons inherit the fathers house 🏠🏡 Most first sons who are well to do even leave the fathers house 🏡 and build his own.. No one can be chased from his father's house 🏡.. although in Igbo land, first sons don't move out of their father's house |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Nobody: 10:24am On Feb 08, 2025 |
To my knowledge in our side,You can go the Muslim way with less expense to bury a parent if you are still hustling and not buoyant enough, dem go allow you but just know you never do burial and your loved one never transit to the afterlife.... Obito is culture which religion can never override, expensive though |
