izzou:In Anambra State, Nteje, some parts of Umuleri, and I think Dunukofia. I think in Dunukofia or somewhere in Anambra state, burial ceremony can last for 3 days where people eat and drink for 3 consecutive days. My friend who's maternal grandma from Nteje died in 2018 aged 98 years was billed 5 cows cos she was the oldest person in the whole of Nteje prior to her death. The whole family couldn't afford her burial ceremony and now her oldest son has passed few weeks ago and he is also well aged. According to culture, they can't perform burial rites for the man unless his mom's own is fully observed. If they decide to perform rites for both now, they should be looking at 8 cows minimum. |

swiz123:That means there is no poor man in Nteje or Dunukofia, which you and I know is not true. While I agree that there are burials that can go for days or have high demands, most times, it is because the person has a Chieftaincy title they collected. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think there's a village that will require a minimum of 3 cows from anybody in the name of culture before you get buried. It means that farmers there no go die or get buried. In cases like the one you mentioned, most likely the person is titled |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by swiz123(m): 3:42pm On Feb 08, 2025 |
izzou:Not necessarily titled but well aged. For example, the death of oldest within an age grade in the community attracts such. They believe that such people have had middle aged children and matured grandchildren. So everyone comes together to make the burial happen. When my grandma died, we killed a cow for the community and another for her home community. Na the normal rite be that. |

swiz123:If you choose not to do it what will they do to you? I am not from the community but I think its people putting pressure on themselves to impress the living If a retired civil servant dies, and his children are just finishing NYSC or just getting jobs, will they mandate them to do this? na people wey get money care about what an expensive culture says Organize church service, get the church cemetery to bury the dead, share pre packaged jollof rice take away at church premises, everyone head back to your home base to continue your struggle |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 3:58pm On Feb 08, 2025 |
seankafor:They force you well well They will tell you you can't bury your dad in your grandfathers compound until you renovate your grandfathers house (that some 2nd cousins are living in) If you don't, you will bury your father in PH mortuary where by next 5 years someone will dig him up to make space for another body |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 4:00pm On Feb 08, 2025 |
Even all these Ibo girls dowry expensive, Na for people wey get money. I am sure 70% of marriages happening do not pay these expensive dowry Na those wey get money dey put pressure on their fellow rich people. The majority of the people are living their lives and not conforming to these man made, chop belleful rules |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by swiz123(m): 4:13pm On Feb 08, 2025 |
seankafor:No, I am not from there. But in mine, there are some social and cultural stigma attached to it. For example, you can't take a title if you have any dead one in your family who wasn't properly buried. |

BREAKING: The Lagos State government has signed an MOU with the internationally-acclaimed construction company, Summa Group, to develop and construct the Lekki-Epe International Airport… |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by swiz123(m): 4:22pm On Feb 08, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Like I said, the dead one must be well aged, that means, his grandchildren should be the one finishing NYSC. That church people you want to organize won't even come if the dead one had some unpaid dues with the church except you decide to clear them. If they eventually come, keep 3 big cooler of rice with enough meat and at least 5 cartons of malt. Even after all these, the community doesn't recognize it. If you want to take a Chieftaincy title, you have to bury your dead properly. Before you can bury another dead, you have to bury the first who died. Everything keeps stacking up and there's risk of serious social stigma. And if you have any self respect left, you better not raise any form of opinion during a village meeting. |

A40:Copium no dey allow una see wetin dey at play. We need Kdot to perform that song like it is going out of fashion. Remember, the distributor (UMG) owns the licensing rights. So, for it to be performed, UMG had to give the Superbowl that right. That's the nail to their coffin. They'll have to argue that actively working against your number 1 money maker was your expression of free speech. LOL. Big as the what? Fun fact: Drake has rejected the Superbowl at least 2 times. Una never sabi why the industry needs this guy to be smaller. Look it up, music execs have said they won't trade Drake's musical catalog for all of 70's, 80's and 90's music - put together! Big as the what? Infantino wants Drake to headline the first ever world cup half time show '26. World cup >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Superbowl. ![]() Do. Right. And. Kill. Everything - DRAKE. |

By now he would have dropped one of his bubble gum McDonald's singalong song. But shame no gree am https://www.complex.com/music/a/markelibert/did-drake-turn-down-super-bowl-halftime-show-gig Sorry Mr Drake fan. NFL insiders say no such thing. Who born Drake papa? even Wizzy him oga dey beg to perform. Is he as big as Michael Jackson or Prince wey go dey demo for Superbowl

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Android17: 12:24am On Feb 09, 2025 |
A40:Twitter fall-outs unfortunately don't equate to facts. Drake released 3 free singles via a burner IG account called plottttwist. All with zero promo and not even through his official account. All had millions of views in days which prompted UMG to get them struck out so they'll be on DSP - streaming basically. They all have 100ms of streams as we speak - no promotion. "No Face", "Circadian Rhythm" had significantly more views on IG than Spotify for e.g and Drake used that as additional evidence that Spotify were colluding with UMG to stymie his streaming numbers. Since the lawsuit, all Drake's songs are streaming at outrageous rates. Some 2011 albums are re-charting. "9" from Views is the most streamed TikTok song of 2025. Drake already has the most streams of any rapper in 2025 - AGAIN. He was number 1, 11 out of 12 months in 2024. I can go on and on. Truly, you don't want this debate with me. I mean it. By now he would have dropped one of his bubble gum McDonald's singalong song. But shame no gree amDo you remember I said I have avoided conversations about Drake generally because I have to start by correcting lies before providing facts? I'll give you a chance to re-research the factual statement I made about Drake and the Superbowl before I post the evidence. You usually get your Drake talking points off Twitter - you should read the responses to see that what you have above is twaddle. Elliott Wilson and Akademiks that you referred to the other day, have something to say. FYI - be mindful when you post stuff from Twitter. I said it again, too many spastics with half truths lead to bad arguments. That screenshot says RocNation never offered Drake the Superbowl since they signed the selection deal with the NFL. Pray tell, when did RocNation sign that contract and who said Drake was not offered that before RocNation signed that contract? Keep your Grammy and Superbowl arguments in the same folder. You don't know the Drake you're arguing against. Drake has more number 1's than Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift. I told you Musical execs will rather have his catalog than all the 70's to 90's music where Prince released most of his stuff. De play. |

Judging by the songs that come up whenever trends like this come up, it's fair to say Burna Boy has never made a song that had the streets on chokehold. Purely street rep among Big 3, it's still Davido, Wiz (a distant second), then Burna. https://x.com/robert18326/status/1887546008634065228/quotes |

On this burial stuff, make I yarn una one story. Mid 2022 - Early 2023, inexplicable things begin dey sup for our family. Me, dem hold my promotion for office. This was despite acing the appraisal assessment and being recommended for promotion. Business wey I establish as additional side hustle to my 9 - 5 run down. Pregnancy wey my sister carry after years of TTC drop. A cousin in Okitipupa commot for house to go work and never returned back. A niece in the university, a very brilliant gal studying Nursing Science woke up one morning and begin dey kolo. Popsy sef dey get incessant health issues that time. E even reach my elder bro side for Cany, as hin lose hin good paying job. etc etc As in, everything just dey go wrong that time with all of us Na so mumsy dream that period and in the dream, our paternal grandpa appeared to her and admitted to being behind our travails because popsy, our uncles and aunts no give am befitting burial when him kpai. According to how she take narrate am, hin spirit dey aggrieved and is not at rest because he was buried dishonourably, and na why hin dey afflict us. Keep in mind, that grandpa kpai in the late 90's. She begin dey disturb and pile pressure on popsy and we the children say make we do the traditional burial rites and give grandpa a befitting sendforth to the great beyond. Initially we refused but after unrelenting pressure from her, incessant calls and impressing it on us the children that popsy was aged, and may be called home soon, and customarily, we are barred from giving him a "befitting burial" because he didn't do such for grandpa, we caved in and agreed to give grandpa a befitting burial in the form of a thanksgiving/remembrance. Popsy being the oldest son called a family meeting and convinced his brothers, sisters and cousins. Dem pick date wey be last week of December 2023, do budget, share responsibilities and the bills. Me, I don know say I no go travel go villa because wifey was due in January, and I couldn't leave her cos na me be her only support system. Elder bro in Cany on PR visa was due for citizenship in January, and was solely focused on that and did not want to prolong his eligibility days by travelling to Nigeria. Two cousins abroad in UK on care work visa were not coming too. Everybody sent money and our cousins back in the villa did the logistics and running around. We collect Aso-ebi. Bought two cows. Booked the community secondary school field, rented canopies, chairs and tables, and hired a traditional highlife musician with his band for the all-night party. The traditional rites to appease grandpa's soul were done, Church thanksgiving / remembrance was done too, The all night party was well attended, People ate, drank to their fill and danced merrily. Everything went well. Na so we take run the thing and everyone went back to base and their normal lives afterwards. As we enter January 2024, my promotion came through and was backdated to October 2022 when I was originally due. All the arrears of the salary increment was paid to me with my January salary. My cousin wey go work in Okitipupa and disappeared was found wandering in Oshodi in tattered clothes and bathroom slippers and clearly in a dishevelled state. He underwent rehabilitation and has fully recovered today. My sister took in again in January 2024, carried the pregnancy to term and delivered a bouncing baby boy in September. My niece studying Nursing Science in University deferred her programme for a session, underwent treatment & rehabilitation, and is now fully recovered, back in school and in her final year. My elder bro's cany citizenship came through and he got a better paying job than the one he lost. Popsy after being in and out of hospital in 2023 did not visit the hospital once in 2024. And so on and so on........... I no dey put stock for this kind spiritual stuff but these na things wey we experience for our family. and shey na just coincidence say things begin dey pick up for us after we buried grandpa "right", comments? |
