Opebiman:This is one of Tinubu's visions. He had a vision where others could not and now it paid off. For the US to invest 500 Million US dollars in any COnsulate is not a small feat. They bought into the EKO Atlantic vision and projection. Just to educate some of the kids on NL. Before Eko Atlantic, that area was sand-filled every year by successive govts with billions of Niara yet the area keeps getting flooded every year. Properties along that corridor were getting flooded. The fear was that the entire VI would eventually be flooded and overtaken by the sea and it was getting worse and worse. I still remember vividly visiting Nigeria in the year 2000, the road off the coast (Ahmadu Bello Way) was flooded hence most cars had to turn back for fear of getting sweapt away or having the cars stalled in the ocean water. Tinubu came in and brought the idea of relcaiming the land and turning it into what Eko Altntic is today. And no more flooding in that area. |

Opebiman:It’s interesting, isn’t it? When the U.S. chooses a location for such a big structure, it’s not just about prestige or economic reasons; safety and accessibility play a huge role. In the event of a crisis, being in a strategic location helps with evacuation and security. It’s not just about the building itself but about ensuring their citizens and diplomats can be moved quickly if needed. So, it’s more of a precautionary measure, and it does make you think about how these decisions are made beyond just the surface. |
