IG Warns Officers Against Carrying Guns In Mufti, Violating Human Rights by treesun(op): 10:59pm On Feb 10, 2025
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to officers of the Nigeria Police Force against carrying rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti) and engaging in human rights violations.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IG gave the directive during a virtual meeting with senior strategic managers at the Force Headquarters.

Egbetokun noted that the Force had received numerous complaints regarding human rights abuses through its official complaint channels, making it necessary to caution officers against such misconduct.

He stressed that any further violations of human rights would attract severe consequences, urging officers to desist from abusing their authority and to maintain proper dressing standards.

“No operative should be seen carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti). All tactical squads must adhere to the standard operating procedures and ensure they are properly attired in the designated uniforms for their respective units.”

Adejobi further stated that the IGP condemned the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, describing the practice as “highly prohibited” and warning that it would no longer be tolerated.

“Such actions impose unnecessary burdens on the parties involved and lead to delays in justice,” he added.

The statement concluded with the IGP directing all officers, regardless of rank, to work collaboratively to prevent any misconduct that could tarnish the reputation of the Force.

IG should just heed the call for retirement and allow others to rise. What else does this man really need in life again?

Greediness is a disease

When directives like this is issued, the state attorney general and commissioner of justice should enforce this laws in their states as the chief law officers of the states.

They are to receive the complains of their citizens and report to the office of the IG if any officer, police stations and police command is violating this directives.

They should use every means possible including the media to make sure that the office of the IG punished any offender of this directives.

This is the way to maintain law and order in the country, but I doubt if this commissioner of justice actually knows their duties.

Don't blame the IG, blame the useless commissioner of justice and Chief law officers of the state who refused to use their office to enforce the laws and directives of the federal government in their respective states.

Think about it, what happens when the state attorney general is reporting to the office of the IG and presenting pictures and videos of the lawlessness of his officers to him and how swift they IG will respond in addressing such issues.

But why' will they do it?

The best way out it is just to blame the federal government and relax in your executive office, without doing anything meaningful.

IG simply means when you see them run.
I noticed that when IG of police says something that his police officers shouldn't do, omo that thing they will do with full force, and as Naija be, argue too much with them and if you no get connections...well, it's well.

That's the illiteracy we are always talking about in Nigeria.

Are police law unto themselves?

Who has the power to discontinue cases in the law court?

The police or the attorney general of the state?

Most of you should just go study the duties of the attorney general of the state in the amended criminal justice system of Nigeria and STFU.

Do you remember when the attorney general Malami asked the DSS to hands off from the case of Sowere after the created a scene inside the Court room?

My dear the attorney generals foolishness is the reason the police are misbehaving.

What we are just saying here is that they should watch over the police in their states and report to their headquarters when they are not respecting directives like this one.

It use to surprise me when I watch a lone policeman using one hand to carry AK47 and be using another hand to harras an able bodied youth.

I was very close to one soldier in a heated argument and he saw me looking at his safety pin, he dished d argument and order me to give him distance.

Nigeria police should tank God they are in Nigeria.
