I remember my last job back in 2011. I didn't just quit, I sued the company to court and made plenty money from them. I don't know why Nigerians like to accept overload of rubbish in the name of E GO BETTER.
Maybe we have the Stockholm syndrome embedded deep in our minds.
How do we get a critical mass of us out of this debilitating mindset huh

(A case study of Nigeria citizens & their elected oppressors).

During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph stalin. He was a brutal dictator with mind of his own. On one fateful day, stalin came to Politburo meeting with a live chicken. Standing in front of audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one. The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely Unclad. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground. The Unclad chicken was staggering in pain. stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & hapless creature. The poor chicken in pain started eating and stalin started walking towards his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet.

Joseph stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership. He said, "This chicken represents the people". "You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them". "If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshiping you". "They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that, you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place." Breath taking, isn't it ?

Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media. Take a look at those they call their heroes. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is. They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments. Did you see the numbers of people that throng to Saraki's House during this Sallah period to go collect peanuts? People trooping to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Foundation offices to collect branded One kilo bag of Rice & Noddles. Did you see the number of people of all ages who troop out to welcome Ex- convict James Ibori to South South! Do you see the number of handle mop following obi as if he is a seat? what of the one following dino malaye?

Your guess is as good as mine. Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! Pass to all your contacts & let your Political & Religion Leaders read, understand & digest.

Unless you understand your role in society, you can never make any meaningful contribution.

According to the Greeks, they are three types of people on Earth,
1. The idiots,
2. The tribesmen, and
3. The citizens.

Studies show only 10% of Africans are citizens.
The remaining 90% are either tribesmen or idiots.

1. When the Greeks used the word "Idiot", they did not use it as a curse word.
Idiots are people who just don’t care.
If they sit for exams, they will cheat.
If they are in government they will steal.

An idiot does not care at all, if he eats bananas he throws the peels anywhere instead of putting them in a trash bin.

IDIOTS won't attend monthly neighborhood meetings. They won't pay security dues. They won't contribute to community development. Even when they see or know about something that will harm others in the community they won't report it. When they see/know/have something that will benefit their community they won't share.

In fact, Idiots don't care to register for or vote in an election, yet they complain the most. If they register to vote, IDIOTS will sell their votes for peanuts.

According to the Greeks, some societies have more idiots than tribesmen and citizens.

2. The next set of people are "Tribesmen", these are people that look at everything from the point of view of their tribe.

These are people that believe in you only if you are part of their tribe.
It can be terrible to have a tribesman as a leader, he will alienate the rest.

When the Greeks talk about tribes, it’s not just about ethnicity, they also consider religion, gang membership, group membership, party membership and even cult membership as a tribe.

A great percentage of Africans are tribesmen, because they view everything from the point of view of their tribes. They trust only their tribesmen

3. The last group are "Citizens".
These are people who like to do things the right way.
They will respect traffic light rules even if no one is watching them.

They drive within speed limits.
They respect the laws, and won’t cheat in exams.
In government, they won’t steal.
They are compassionate and give to others to promote their well-being.

Citizens often promote projects that benefit everyone.
The Greeks called this group "The Citizens".

Some countries have more citizens than tribesmen and idiots, others have so many idiots.

A tribesman can become a citizen through orientation.
And an idiot can become a citizen by training and constant enforcement of the law.

But things fall apart if you elect an idiot or tribesman to lead you if he has not been reformed.

Where do you belong? Are you an idiot, a tribesman or a citizen? Reflect on your life.
Reflect about your immediate community, city, state and nation.

Workers are not protected in Nigeria.

I work 9 to 5 and 36hrs a week, anything beyond 5p.m is overtime and I get paid × 1.5 and if it is an emergency on a Sunday that I normally shouldn't be at work, I get paid × 2 and should any manager try anything unethical with me, he/she knows there is a serious case to answer to, despite me being non-British.
Is this organization in Nigeria?

Most Nigerian employers feel they are doing you a favour by employing and paying you peanuts, They feel that you can't survive without them.
Sadly true ...

It's very difficult to see an employer that doesn't maltreat/discriminate his/her employees because of flimsy/minor issues.

That's why self employment isn't an option for most of us.

Wow, what a harrowing experience!

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. It's unacceptable for an employer to treat an employee with such disrespect, abuse, and exploitation. The fact that he was taking advantage of his students and overcharging them for IT skills he himself didn't possess is appalling.

Your courage and self-worth are admirable. Recognizing your value and refusing to be treated poorly is a testament to your strength. Leaving that toxic work environment and finding alternative means of earning a living online was a wise decision.

Your story serves as a reminder that employees deserve respect, fair compensation, and a safe working environment. No one should have to endure abuse or exploitation in the workplace.

Thank you for sharing your story, and I'm glad you're doing well now.

That's how I was called for an interview in a telecommunication firm where I just saw the opening and decided to apply. Meanwhile, am an expert in my field and has years of experience as a telecom Engineer. Am based outside Nigeria doing my things low key back home because am not the see me see you doings, I just like low key life and hustle. On the day of the interview, we started with the first interviewer, second interviewer and came the last interviewer who wanted to be a bone on my neck. He asked few questions which i answered correctly. After he's done, he asked if I have any question which I says yes and asked him please can you tell me the pay range of this position and what are the benefits for the successful candidate because he clearly stated to me that he's incharge of financial expenditures, na so my brother started shouting oooooo, I never start work I dey ask for salary range and benefit. I quickly reminded him, this is a telecom world where engineers varies in terms of experience and salary scale and handling issues on site. Na so my man start to dey tear for me oooooo and shouting on top simple and correct question I asked, I quickly called him Sir, I haven't started working with you and you are already planning to boss me around, I don't work in a toxic environment and I don't think I can work with you. Na so I tell am thank you and says am done and ended the interview from my end. The next day, the man called me on WhatsApp call to apologise and says they saw my CV and them dey interested in me and they want to work with me, meanwhile my experience there is BO Wireless, BO TX, RAN, RF and Transmission Engineer which you rearly find on people's CV. I just told my guy say I dey outside Nigeria and I can't quit my present job to work with him and I was thinking of relocating back home but I changed my mind after the interview with him

No be tribe thing here. Employers in Nigeria are all the same no matter the tribe they come from. Although sometimes you don’t put the whole blame on employers alone in some cases the employees sef get dem own wahala. Someone will resume work in the morning and the first thing to do is to open facebook with the company computer and data and start browsing and chatting . Haba, no na. Some will be playing bet9ja on the company system, some na youtube. no abeg.. make we use common sense.

"My former boss was notorious for undervaluing and micromanaging his staff. During one particularly difficult conversation, he threatened to fire me and condescendingly asked what would become of my life. I stood my ground and replied that God has the final say, not him. Looking back, I realize he was a classic narcissist." Im doing far better in my new place now. Sometimes God allows some situations in our lives to enable us to leave our comfort zone.

I had my own share of this in early 2000s. I was employed as an engineer but if there is nothing engineering to be done, I will be sent to go for marketing. The meager salary was being paid one on one. Before you are paid a delayed salary you will be shouted on that the company didn't make such money in the past month. I will go for marketing but the fear was I maybe about looking for a job. I was staying with my brother. So one day I became fed up and told my colleagues that once my delayed salary is paid, and I walk down the staircase, that will be my last walking down the office staircase. I waited patiently and quietly 🤫 until we were paid after much insults. I collected my money, bid my colleagues farewell and walked down the staircase for the last time. I never looked back. Later learnt the man raved and ranted when he realized what hit him. He had it coming. The company? Of course it crumbled like a pack cards.

Saw a story on fp about the girl beaten for tendering her resignation and it reminded me of my own first and last time working for a Nigerian employer, three words I use to describe it, modern day slavery.

I was fresh out of school and eager to please and even show my prowess, I didn't wanna sit at home like a cow munching on free food cuz my parents hate laziness alot, so I took myself to one company to find a job, met my boss, he was clearly understaffed and doing alot by himself, so he didn't have time to interview me, based on how he was choked up I decided to lend a hand, ran some registration online and did alot of tasks unsupervised, he was impressed so he hired me without an interview or a recruitment process, I was happy when I started until he started getting abusive weeks later.

First he calls me during ungodly hours, after closing he doesn't have the right to call me right? But he calls when he feels like, and yells why didn't you do this before going home, why didn't you do that, he was paying me 30k, this was 2016, and he makes me stay after closing hours by refusing to show up so we can conclude and I can go home, I close by six, baba won't show up until 7-8 so I work overtime, and when it's time for salary he will owe me, then he will deduct here and there for imagined transgressions, that time you were late 30mins, you made this mistake and I lost so so money, it was exhausting I tell you, but I didn't quit cuz like I said I was eager to please.

Here's the final straw that broke the camels back, remember he was understaffed, na later I hear why all his staff resigned and ran, he was an abusive pig, when I started I was supposed to be in charge of everything ICT based on I'm a computer sc graduate, he was supposed to get a receptionist and a cashier, he told me he'd hire them shortly that I'm the first of many. He also has students he's teaching IT skills, this man doesn't have a single IT skill, he has no business running an ICT school, but he's charging over 20 students obscene amount of money as school fees and he's not teaching them anything valuable, one time I was teaching web design and he came and yelled that why am I teaching them that, the money they're paying isn't enough for them to learn something that advanced, that am I stupid? In front of the students o,

He first started by begging me to substitute as a teacher, so I started teaching, while running the ICT tasks like networking and everything computer related, I no complain cuz I was happy impacting knowledge and the students adored me, later I start receive payments, becoming the cashier and started attending to customers becoming a receptionist, and he was paying me salary for one position instead of three, after a month I brought the issue up, that's when our problems started, sometimes he will call me after I've gone home that money I collected isn't complete and I stole from him, it's as if the man dey take fentanyl, I'll have to visit him and go through transaction records at night to absolve myself cuz I haven't stolen since I was born, his excuse for not hiring more people is, he hasn't found a suitable person, so I brought my sister to him to employ. Then he started creating a riff between me and my sis.

Sometimes I'll be working and he will sit her down and they'll be discussing me and laughing, my sis thought he's being jovial but no, he's bantering and gossiping his employee, and that is reducing his status but the pig no know, this is despite him owing me backlogs of salary, he refused to pay so I won't run away, I got fed up.

One day I dressed up and came to work, after deep reflection the night before, I pitied my life and felt devalued, so I came to work like nothing happened, then I sat at the lounge chatting and pressing my phone making sure he saw me, I was noisy as hell too, normally he'd yell and I'll scramble like a scared duckling running from a hawk, but as he realize I have had enough and I fit beat am up at that point, he didn't say anything, customers started coming and he was the only one attending to them all, I didn't lift a finger, he couldn't believe it, he was sweating all day, I did that till my closing time and came to his office, look him in the eye and said, I QUIT, brothers and sisters, that was the last time I ever worked for any Nigerian employer, I left the salary for him too, I buckled up and I have been earning online ever since, don't sell yourself to slavery just because you wan survive, the peanuts they pay isn't enough to loose your sanity for.
You brought your sister for her to fuckkk? You no do well for that area. I will never bring my sister or brother to a riff raff employer. Now that you left, he will continue dealing with your sister. Those kind people, you need to leave them stranded
