I have been in the situation before. I wanted to work as a field staff, I moved to Lagos through a friend, got a Job in an automation company as installation staff but I ended up been the one that offload material, prepared them in the workshop, run errands, arranged for logistics, load the ready materials for site, go to site and do. Installation and the boss end up saying he is wasting money on me on top of 70k salary. No Christmas bonus but he pay for my transportation.
When I needed to move on with life, he said I am an ungrateful person.
the phone I bought was from my Dad, I was sleeping in the office, pay money to use the toilet paper, pay money to shower, pay money for the office security services but he tagged me ungrateful.
I just thank God for the experience I got from him and life lesson.

Look at my life now and

Nigerians love to complain that employers don't treat them well but when they become employers themselves they do the same exact thing to their own employees undecided
It's something embedded in there DNA... Nigerians are bad people. If you look at there leaders for the past 30yrs, you will agree with me it's the product of the citizens.

Both the employer and employees are bad people.

The reason why anyone should japa from that country is not even because of the situation but because of the people in it.

They complain about bad leadership but when it's there turn, they do worse.

They complain about slavery but assuming they were in the position of Britain, they will do worse.

I think the only solution is for everyone to be independent and grow according to his or her attitude. Unfortunately, brain, wisdom and creativity is far from them coupled with the amalgamation of the country.

If I should give an example of hell, Nigeria is a good example.

It's way easier being your own boss if you are disciplined.

Imagine working 6-hours a day and you've made 40k to 60k selling fashion items at the comfort of your home. Then you will now tell me to work from 8am to 6pm or even 8pm (including Saturday in most cases) for 300k or 400k. Omor kuku kill me.

Selling ordinary wristwatch on Facebook and Instagram suppose make you 30k daily if you run Ads of 5k but my people perish because they lack knowledge and have been enslaved by their mindset.

To everyone praying to start their business someday. Please don't ever use "I don't have capital" as an excuse. That's you telling lies to YOU.

If you no sabi, say make them teach you.

If you like cry for now till tomorrow. Nobody is coming to save you.

This is 2025. Don't fool yourself.

Guys, if you are honest and smart and you know how to read and write and you come get smartphone. If you're earning less than 500k monthly in Nigeria, I sorry for you.
You just hit the nail... I don't have capital is the demon holding many people backwards. Oso ahia is bay (referral business) but greediness and envy won't allow most people

I remember my last job back in 2011. I didn't just quit, I sued the company to court and made plenty money from them. I don't know why Nigerians like to accept overload of rubbish in the name of E GO BETTER.
Care to share why you sued them? What happened?

As a classroom teacher in one school in the north, I am also on one which happened two years ago or so.

In fact, I threatened to sue them and made it clear, but it seems they just do not give a Bleep. grin grin grin grin grin

That's how I was called for an interview in a telecommunication firm where I just saw the opening and decided to apply. Meanwhile, am an expert in my field and has years of experience as a telecom Engineer. Am based outside Nigeria doing my things low key back home because am not the see me see you doings, I just like low key life and hustle. On the day of the interview, we started with the first interviewer, second interviewer and came the last interviewer who wanted to be a bone on my neck. He asked few questions which i answered correctly. After he's done, he asked if I have any question which I says yes and asked him please can you tell me the pay range of this position and what are the benefits for the successful candidate because he clearly stated to me that he's incharge of financial expenditures, na so my brother started shouting oooooo, I never start work I dey ask for salary range and benefit. I quickly reminded him, this is a telecom world where engineers varies in terms of experience and salary scale and handling issues on site. Na so my man start to dey tear for me oooooo and shouting on top simple and correct question I asked, I quickly called him Sir, I haven't started working with you and you are already planning to boss me around, I don't work in a toxic environment and I don't think I can work with you. Na so I tell am thank you and says am done and ended the interview from my end. The next day, the man called me on WhatsApp call to apologise and says they saw my CV and them dey interested in me and they want to work with me, meanwhile my experience there is BO Wireless, BO TX, RAN, RF and Transmission Engineer which you rearly find on people's CV. I just told my guy say I dey outside Nigeria and I can't quit my present job to work with him and I was thinking of relocating back home but I changed my mind after the interview with him
I am RF and TX engineer, can you link me up? I have 8yrs experience but I don't climb towers or anything 10m above sea level. What is BO and RAN

Saw a story on fp about the girl beaten for tendering her resignation and it reminded me of my own first and last time working for a Nigerian employer, three words I use to describe it, modern day slavery.

I was fresh out of school and eager to please and even show my prowess, I didn't wanna sit at home like a cow munching on free food cuz my parents hate laziness alot, so I took myself to one company to find a job, met my boss, he was clearly understaffed and doing alot by himself, so he didn't have time to interview me, based on how he was choked up I decided to lend a hand, ran some registration online and did alot of tasks unsupervised, he was impressed so he hired me without an interview or a recruitment process, I was happy when I started until he started getting abusive weeks later.

First he calls me during ungodly hours, after closing he doesn't have the right to call me right? But he calls when he feels like, and yells why didn't you do this before going home, why didn't you do that, he was paying me 30k, this was 2016, and he makes me stay after closing hours by refusing to show up so we can conclude and I can go home, I close by six, baba won't show up until 7-8 so I work overtime, and when it's time for salary he will owe me, then he will deduct here and there for imagined transgressions, that time you were late 30mins, you made this mistake and I lost so so money, it was exhausting I tell you, but I didn't quit cuz like I said I was eager to please.

Here's the final straw that broke the camels back, remember he was understaffed, na later I hear why all his staff resigned and ran, he was an abusive pig, when I started I was supposed to be in charge of everything ICT based on I'm a computer sc graduate, he was supposed to get a receptionist and a cashier, he told me he'd hire them shortly that I'm the first of many. He also has students he's teaching IT skills, this man doesn't have a single IT skill, he has no business running an ICT school, but he's charging over 20 students obscene amount of money as school fees and he's not teaching them anything valuable, one time I was teaching web design and he came and yelled that why am I teaching them that, the money they're paying isn't enough for them to learn something that advanced, that am I stupid? In front of the students o,

He first started by begging me to substitute as a teacher, so I started teaching, while running the ICT tasks like networking and everything computer related, I no complain cuz I was happy impacting knowledge and the students adored me, later I start receive payments, becoming the cashier and started attending to customers becoming a receptionist, and he was paying me salary for one position instead of three, after a month I brought the issue up, that's when our problems started, sometimes he will call me after I've gone home that money I collected isn't complete and I stole from him, it's as if the man dey take fentanyl, I'll have to visit him and go through transaction records at night to absolve myself cuz I haven't stolen since I was born, his excuse for not hiring more people is, he hasn't found a suitable person, so I brought my sister to him to employ. Then he started creating a riff between me and my sis.

Sometimes I'll be working and he will sit her down and they'll be discussing me and laughing, my sis thought he's being jovial but no, he's bantering and gossiping his employee, and that is reducing his status but the pig no know, this is despite him owing me backlogs of salary, he refused to pay so I won't run away, I got fed up.

One day I dressed up and came to work, after deep reflection the night before, I pitied my life and felt devalued, so I came to work like nothing happened, then I sat at the lounge chatting and pressing my phone making sure he saw me, I was noisy as hell too, normally he'd yell and I'll scramble like a scared duckling running from a hawk, but as he realize I have had enough and I fit beat am up at that point, he didn't say anything, customers started coming and he was the only one attending to them all, I didn't lift a finger, he couldn't believe it, he was sweating all day, I did that till my closing time and came to his office, look him in the eye and said, I QUIT, brothers and sisters, that was the last time I ever worked for any Nigerian employer, I left the salary for him too, I buckled up and I have been earning online ever since, don't sell yourself to slavery just because you wan survive, the peanuts they pay isn't enough to loose your sanity for.
i for beat am , collect my salary .

They laid me off with immediate effect instead of following the rules by giving me one month notice or the appropriate layoff payment.
I didn't threaten them, I just went straight to my lawyer, next thing na court we enter.

They will cover their loopholes and turn you to a joke. Weigh your options, be sure of yourself and sue if you want to. good luck.
