motymop:Your may be right but has nothing to do with market capitalization which the stock price multiply by the number of stock outstanding. Nigerian commercial banks have the habits of frequently issuing through IPOs, right of issue and shares bonus to raise money which keep devalues shares value and reduce or stagnant their market capitalization. |

PremiumTrust Bank Becomes First National Commercial Bank to Meet CBN's N200bn Capital Requirement PremiumTrust Bank has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first national commercial bank in Nigeria to successfully meet the Central Bank of Nigeria's new minimum capital requirement of N200 billion. With just seven months remaining until the March 2026 deadline, PremiumTrust Bank has demonstrated exceptional strategic planning and execution by completing its recapitalisation ahead of schedule. This achievement positions the bank as a frontrunner in the Nigerian banking sector's compliance with the CBN's stringent capital adequacy requirements. The Central Bank of Nigeria, in March 2024, directed all commercial banks to raise fresh equity to meet higher paid-up capital thresholds as part of efforts to strengthen the banking sector. National commercial banks like PremiumTrust were required to raise their minimum capital base to N200 billion, while international banks face a higher threshold of N500 billion. PremiumTrust Bank's early achievement of the N200 billion capital requirement reflects the institution's robust financial position and strong investor confidence. While many banks in the national category are still working towards meeting the deadline, PremiumTrust's proactive approach has set it apart as a leader in regulatory compliance. The recapitalisation exercise has created significant pressure across Nigeria's banking sector. While a few banks including Access Holdings, Zenith Bank, and Stanbic IBTC have met the international bank threshold of N500 billion, the national banking category has seen limited success until PremiumTrust's breakthrough. Other national banks including Wema Bank, Providus Bank, and Globus Bank have also reportedly met their requirements, but PremiumTrust Bank's position as the first to achieve this milestone marks a significant competitive advantage. With its recapitalisation now complete, PremiumTrust Bank is well-positioned to expand its operations, enhance service delivery, and pursue new growth opportunities in the Nigerian financial services market. The increased capital base provides a stronger foundation for lending activities and supports the bank's long-term strategic objectives. As other banks continue to race against the March 2026 deadline, PremiumTrust Bank's early completion of its capital requirements demonstrates the strength of its management team and the confidence of its shareholders in the bank's future prospects.
